I started off the day thinking that *ALL* dual Ghia's got the 315 hemi from the D500. *BUT* after poking around, I found evidence of 218 hp (315 2 bbl poly) and 230 hp (315 4 bbl poly) as well as the 260 hp D500 315 hemi.

At one point, I found a video that talked about car number one that I though had a hemi. However, after a second (or third look) I see that it had a poly. It was also titled under its engine number, D63392893, which is clearly a 315 poly engine number

And then there was this video about a red 57 Dual Ghia in which the owner mentions at 5:38 that "approximately 25% of the Dual Ghia were equipped with the hemi engine". BUT some where in the video he also says the that Dual Ghia was a uni-body car which I pretty sure is incorrect. (??)

The book about Virgil Exner: Visoneer, mentions on pages 62 and 63 that "The Dual-Ghia was produced in very limited numbers between 1956 and 1963 and was powered by a Red Ram hemi V8 (sic - not true, apparently). Many shrewd buyers spent an extra $100 and went for Dodge's D500 power option, giving an impressive 260 bhp. The bodies were made in Turin and shipped to Casaroll's factory at 9760 Van Dyke, Detroit, where they were mounted to the specially prepared Dodge chassis".

Another version of the story said: "Dodge passenger car chassis' were shipped from Detroit to Turin by Dual Motors. The Italian craftsmen at Ghia then created hand-formed steel bodies to cloth the chassis. They were then returned to the Dual Motors facilities where they received 315 CID Dodge V-8 engines and Dodge PowerFlite two-speed automatic transmissions. The car's had a 115-inch wheelbase, rearward engine placement, and low center of gravity with Ghia's bodywork channeled in a 'step-down' arrangement over the chassis frame, allowing for easy entry and exit."

So, it looks like the car had a frame, albeit a shortened Dodge frame and the engines included both the 315 poly and the 315 hemi. Later cars might have had the 57 325 hemi (??)

Car SN 162 was a 57 with a hemi:

Here is a video regarding a 58 Dual-Ghia SN 197 (perhaps the last one):
