I've used Steele, and the windshield in my '56 Plymouth fit perfectly. Rear window...not so great!

Gary, your Plymouth is a sedan, correct? Which part number did you use for the windshield? There is a lot of confusion about which is the correct gasket from those guys.

On the sedan, even for the '55 Dodge, they list 3 different gaskets, 1864, 2300, and 1880. In the past, when I asked them about it, they contradicted the information that they have listed for each gasket. But you say the 1864 worked for you. Does the 55 Dodge have molding that clips into the gasket all around it? The 1864 was the one that they recommended on the phone for the sedan with moldings all around, but the specs posted for it look all wrong.

I wasn't aware of the three part numbers, in which now I am curious. what I was looking at is on ebay (haven't bought yet) that's the part number for 55 56 dodge and Plymouth. Im guessing that lower trim cars did not have the trim clipped in the gasket? ( my custom royal does) or am I completely wrong.

For 55 Dodge, there are actually four different windshield gaskets, depending on body style and whether there is a visor or not. Check the parts book (section 23-66-235) to see which on is correct for your car.

The problem Ron, is in figuring out which gasket corresponds to which spec. Because if you go by the information that is posted for that gasket, you come up with different conclusions from speaking with them on the phone. That's why I was hoping to get some first hand experience from Gary. Have you purchased and used any of their gaskets for a sedan? The hardtop version is a lot easier because there is only one listed on it. Here is the old thread on it.

My Plymouth is a 2-door hardtop. If I remember correctly, there is one for the top of the line model sedan, and another for the hardtop and convertible. The one without the slot for the stainless trim is used on the lower priced models, again one for the sedans and one for the hardtop.

I just looked at the Steele catalog and I don't recall that many gasket choices when I bought mine about three or four years ago!

so doing a little research on steele's website, they list 3 seals for the 4 door post cars. 1864 is for cars with the trim that snaps in the molding, without the wide upper trim panel. 1880 is the same but with the wide upper panel (mine). and 2300 is for cars without the trim snapped in. please correct me if im wrong. this will be the company I go with for the gasket!! thanks guys!!
