I bought this 60 Dodge convertible today. I saw the car in person 2 years ago. I know some of the cosmetic issues it has, but would love feedback from the forum on the rest of the car. What do I need to change in order make the car correct? I know the seats are wrong. I may end up with a big can of worms, but this car deserves work its way towards being correct. The other link is from when it was at RM, more pictures. Any help appreciated!

if I recall correctly the dash is suppose to be a brownish black color. when we did my dads car, he choose not to go the correct dash color, along with the steering column suppose to be dash color look at sales brochures.
the top frame is suppose to be black i think too

Nice car Mike. The seats are sort of correct, just the shoddy looking Mylar inserts...... If you want to send all your cash to SMS Fabrics and forget about it for 3 years they can probably make up the correct seat covers. The Phoenix did have an all vinyl optional interior that looked like this. I think this interior is all ori

Looks to be a nice car, Mike with some good options.
Whether or not original to the car equipped with the fender chrome spears, front bumper rubber pads, interior map light and revolving clock.

The one item that don’t believe is correct is the steering wheel chrome horn center. Based on original 1960 horn centers seen or in the dealer brochures Believe that the correct color should be a light yellow “cream” or a brown but not the red.

hah got to love the "turrent clock"... the brochure shows silver for air cleaner covers?  now comes the great debate of what color the block and air cleaners should be.

going to have to yank the engine? it looks black which is right?, maybe the paint is faded?

here they say red blocks, cleaners and rams..

Mike, this is an all original dash board on my (ex) 1960 (Canadian) Polara, which is now owned by a friend of mine. ( He added A/C to the car). The paint is a medium red metallic. I believe however that the Darts with a red interior came with a black dashboard. The Red interior cars normally would have the horn bar painted in a metallic brownish color. See the photo below.
There were 2 different horn bars used for power steering equipped 1960 Dodges. Some had the words "Power Steering" embossed on either side of the center emblem, and some had it inside the emblem. I've seen both types on Polara/Matadors and both types on the Darts.

yeah that looks a lot better... as opposed to the "spray it all with a firehose red!" method of the car currently

The info & photos that Ian provided is what I was trying to explain in this previous response.
I have an original chrome center painted with the other light yellow “off-white cream” color and will dig it out to post a photo.
As a note this wheel is NON power steering which may explain the different colors, brown or off-white cream. Was the difference dependent on the model or option ??

Which wheel do you mean when you say it is a non power steering wheel? The one in my ex has " power steering" embossed on the bar, on either side of the emblem, while the convertible referred to has "Power Steering" inside the emblem if you look close. That's what I meant when I said there were 2 types of bars.

Maybe it wasn't clear in my second reply but the statement to NON power steering was not a reference to photos that you posted. And, yes agree there are two different version of "power steering" - Either embossed or printed on the center emblem.

The note about NON power steering was referring to the horn center stated in that reply that I have with a light yellow "off-white cream" painted center. SEE Attached photo of that center.
It has no embossed wording for power steering on the horn bar and a plain center emblem - So NO reference to power steering at all.

To add to the confusion I found this auction posted on ebay showing a 60 horn center with the same "off-white cream" painted center but WITH the words power steering embossed into the horn bar. SEE Attached photo

Also, here's the link to the auction in case anyone wants to check out additional photos / details: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-Dodge-Dart-Polara-Steering-Wheel-Horn-...

If anything it rules out that it was related to the power steering option and more likely that the model or trim line dictated what color the center horn bar was painted.

Problem not solved, people tell me they're good for their word and then they aren't :). It happens.

Here is Aivar's 60 Phoenix as shown on "My Classic Car"

Aivar has since sold the car to a Swede who is supposed to open a ''Car Museum" in
Searchlight Florida.
