Lads --
Has anyone gone to the Caffeine and Chrome soiree down off Peoria sponsored by Gateway Classic Cars? Weather permitting, I'd like to bring Big Red ('65 Sport Fury) up this coming Saturday just to see a new venue.

Hi, Joe:

I have never been there.  I am sorry for the late reply.  Did you go?

Nope, I didn't make it. The weather looked iffy in the morning and I chickened out. Too bad, because it turned out to be a be a rather nice day. I did do a little cruising in the afternoon, though.

Joe, did you have any luck selling the BTB?

Actually, I had Moby Dick II (the 300C) up for sale for just a short time and pulled it off the market. I had located a red '60 Ventura 2-dr H/T (three pots, 348 HP, 4-speed, 8-bolt wheels, etc.) but the Boss said I had to get rid of one of the others before I got another "investment." Unfortunately, I wasn't able to move fast enough and the Poncho got away. As you can tell, I do like 4-speed cars, but when it came to sacrificing one of my TorqueFlites, the Big-Tailed Beast beat out MD2 because it always takes me back to the days of my misspent youth.
Incidently, I did run against a few '60 Pontiacs of various sizes back then and never lost to one, but I always liked their looks and they're really not "belly button" cars.

Well, if the consolation prize to the Poncho is the BTB, that ain't bad!  My Dad's philosophy is that if you want to enjoy all the variety in life, better trade cars than women!

There might be another car that will strike your fancy.  Maybe it wouldn't be bad to keep the Beast on the market.

I just gotta make sure you understand that the BTB, or Big-Tailed Beast, is my '60 Fury and that is the absolutely LAST car I'd part with. I was going to exchange the the second great white whale, my 300C (AKA MD2, or Moby Dick II) for the Poncho, but NEVER the '60 Fury as that represents my first automotive love affair and how could I drop my first love? It's number one on my list followed by the '65 Vette, then the '65 Sport Fury, with the C bringing up the rear.
Incidently, I took the '65 Sport Fury down to PPIR for their "Americana Spring Fling" Saturday. I even took it on the 1/8 mile strip where that big 426 mill was too much for those Coker street tires. I could still smell them turning back into the pits -- too much fishtailing and even wheel hop, but a fairly creditable E.T. of I think around 8.30 or so. This old fudd is a relic from the flagman days so the "Christmas Tree" was a bit of a challenge. Plus, the tach on that thing is in the the stupid Chrysler fashion of in the console, so I had to shift by ear and feel, but it was fun. I did peg the 120 speedo on the way home though; not for very long, just enough to get the adrenaline up.

Aha!  Brain Fart!  I was thinking of MDII all along, but got the nicknames confused.
