Regardless of where the 56 Dodge was built (Detroit or LA), the respective IBM cards have a "slot" for the radio code. To date, I had only seen either nothing, an 8 or a 9 in the radio code position.

Last night I was sent an image of a Detroit built 56 Custom Royal with an "8" in the radio code slot. I asked for a photo of the radio and some information about it. The radio is a six button 842 HR where the left most button is "OFF" (and the other 5 are for pre-sets).

I checked my record for other 56 Dodge IBM cards and corresponding radios. One of the ones I have is an IBM card with a "9" radio code. That car has a five button ElectroTouch-Tuning ("Town and Country") radio. The model for that one is "910" (or "910HR" if the Highway HiFi was to be added)

So curiously, for 56 Dodges an 8 radio code = 842 and a 9 radio code = 910 (or 910HR???)

I also have an image of a 56 Coronet IBM card that was sent to me that has a "6" radio code but I don't have an image of the radio.

In searching for an image of a "6" radio, I discovered the Radio Museum which had info for a "621" which is a no-button radio (just knobs), and the 6 button 842 and both the 910 and 910HR (see images below).

https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/motorola_mopar_621_dodge_d62_d63.html

Does any one else have other 56 Dodge radio code/model info? Was there a "7"??

I just figured out the "6", "8" and "9" in the model numbers: it refers to the number of tubes that are involved.

The 6 = 12BA6 12BE6 12AU6 12AV6 12AB5 12X4

The 8 = 12BA6 12BE6 12AU6 12AV6 12BF6 12AB5 12AB5 12X4

The 9 = 12BA6 12BE6 12BA6 12AV6 12AV6 12AU7 12AB5 12AB5 12X4

Example: " The HF93 / 12BA6 Vacuum tube is a miniature type used as an RF amplifier in AC/DC standard broadcast receivers, in FM receivers, and in other wide-band, HF applications. It requires a miniature 7-contact socket.

Electrical Data
Heater Voltage ................................ 12.6 V
Heater Current ................................ 0.15 A

Preferred Substitutes ................... 12AU6"

I've been working on learning more about 56 Dodge IBM cards and think that I have the radio option codes sorted:

336 = 6 tube, manual tuning, Model 621 (see below)

338 = 8 tube, push button tuning, Model 842 Music Master

339 = 9 tube, push button tuning plus mechanical seek, "Electro-touch tuning" (aka "Town" and "Country")

Dave:
337 = 9 tube, push button tuning plus mechanical seek, "Electro-touch tuning" and Highway Hi-Fi Phonograph
Highway Hi-Fi was used with the most expensive Electro Touch Tuner Radio of all
We are have discussed about it earlier…

Igor: Not 100% true

Both the 8 tube 842 Music Master and the 9 tube 910 Electro-touch tuning radios made by Motorola for the 1956 Dodges could be had in two versions, i.e. 842 and 842HR and 910 and 910HR.

The letters "HR" after the number meant that the customer had also ordered the "optional" 1956 Highway Hi-Fi in-car record player. The "HR" suffix after the 1956 Mopar car radios, was to indicated that the radio was specially designed for customers who had ordered the "optional" Highway Hi-Fi in-car phonographs. Not only did these radios have a special "plug-in" socket adapter on the back of the radio's cabinet, but is also had slightly different circuitry inside so the Highway Hi-Fi record player could be plugged into it. So no HR = no Highway Hi-Fi but you could still get a 842 or 910 without the "HR" if you wanted.

There was also a metal jumper clip in case the customer had removed the Highway Hi-Fi phonograph from their car or the radio in for repairs. If you just disconnected and removed the phonograph, and had not installed this metal jumper clip back into the socket adapter, then the radio would not work properly. That socket is also a convenient place to tie in an ipod or cd input to the radio, as long as you avoid the filament and B+ connections that were also present on the socket.

There was also the X option, for the Shortwave converter. I have a 842X-HR here.

Dave: it seems you are right
I thought this statement correct for Chrysler only…
That only Chrysler could have either Music Master or Electro Touch Tuner with Hi Fi Phonograph
But I have found the picture of 1956 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible which has equipped with Music Master Radio (6 push buttons) and Hi Fi Phonograph
