I'll post some of the more colorful story below, but Bob Terpak and I were unsure of one of the codes and was wondering if anyone can help. We know it is a white 1959 Adventurer 2 door hardtop scheduled on January 6 with undercoating and a hot water heater. What does A9 mean?

For those here for the story, my friend Ryan Richards bought this car Memorial Day weekend out of Montana. Same owners since about 1968 or so. Supposedly when the guy bought it, the motor had had some improper internal work done and he ended up getting a correct replacement 383 (Adventurers do not have special block markings) through Chrysler and swapped all the Adventurer parts onto the new block. Not long after, he went off to serve and left the keys with his brother just in case they needed a spare car. He came home to find the tires bald and a power steering pump issue. With barely being able to afford gas to begin with, he parked the car in a single stall shed/barn. There it sat until putting it up for sale a few weeks ago.

Other than the engine swap, the car appears to be all numbers-matching correct and an unmolested original. It's an early build, so it has the slight kick-up on the rear upper sweep trim. The only option we can determine it had was undercoating, but it's very stripped for an Adventurer. No remote mirror, auto-dimming mirrors, power seat, power windows, tinted glass, 7-button seek-and-scan radio, rear defroster, sure grip, trumpet horn, air suspension, A/C, etc.

One thing that we noticed about it as well is an overwhelming amount of turquoise in the areas where the paint didn't reach. My unrestored black '59 Fireflite Sportsman also has this and I have seen photos of at least two other cars with it, so I can only assume it was some form of primer they used.

Ryan will probably chime in here too, but just in the past 10 or so days it has been home, it has had an oil change, tune-up, new tires, replaced the busted rear window, gave it a thorough cleaning (in progress), and does in fact run! If all goes well, the plan is that it will be in Hutchinson, KS at the DeSoto convention in July.

Maybe A9 is the antennae or bumper guards?  Just a guess.

From the data plate above what does A9 mean?

Was Gx ever used in 1959? What would x be?

Hello Fireflite56

On the tag of your Adventurer I see signs H1 – it is Basic Group (code 311) that was used on Fireflites and Adventurers at extra cost, which includes:
Heater
Outside Left Mirror
Prismatic Mirror
Vanity Mirror
License Plate Frame
Touch Tuner Radio
Rear Seat Speaker
Dual Exhaust
Stone Deflector

Convenience Group (code 312 = H2 signs) includes Basic Group (code 311) plus:
Station Seaker Radio
Power Windows
Power Seat Six Way
Left Outside Remote Control Mirror (instead Manual Control)
Triad Horn

H5 = Heater
A9 = sorry, I have not info (maybe Sure Grip Differential = code 399)

Build sheet codes, which I saw:
501 = Undercoating
533 = 3.31 Rear Axle Ratio
549 = Generator Amperage (not info about Amperes)

Correction: That is a M1, not H1. Hard to see… My mistake…
M1 = 441 = Radio Music Master and Antenna
