Subject: 1956 Plymouth brake help

I am putting Disc brakes on the front of my 56 and leaving the drums on the
back. Should I put a proportioning valve in for the rear brakes

Yes, and make sure the master is a disc/drum unit, you can use an adjustable prop valve or the more common disc drum fixed prop valve.
