Beautiful car. Considering the last one only went for $30k, $46k for this one might be a bit optimistic. Regardless it still looks like a fantastic vehicle. Love the color scheme, though I'd probably redo the interior in a different color unless that's the way it came from the factory.

From the full description:

"The car was originally white with a red interior and had been repainted an unflattering shade of light blue at some point early in its life. He chose to paint the car a factory offered shade of light gray, which is similar to its original color and particularly flattering to the red interior. "

This is just like your Firedome, except your 'dome had a black roof with less chrome. But it did also have the red interior.
(I would like to hear about any updates on your car.)

I wonder what I was seeing. It seemed like anodized pinkish aluminum on the sides, which would have been as googie/50s as it gets. Love that stuff, even used on buildings back in the day. My 60 is my favorite car, but I look with envy at the FLs that came with aluminum trim from the factory! From 57-61 1960 was the only year without anodized aluminum side trim

I ran into an issue with some of the metal I got; I didn't realize that the C pillars on two door and four door hardtops were different sizes!

It's going to be blasted and primered hopefully by the end of July, and I will be driving through Arizona again next month so I will make a stop at DVAP for rockers and probably another canopy and the rest of the rear floors. My mechanic's metal guy suggested media blasting would be the best way to determine where we need to make cuts and ensure that we are welding to good metal and to make sure that the metal work where the body is mounted to the frame is done in a way that is structurally sound and can properly support the body.

And yes, I am very tempted to do something similar with the paint as this car. It's subdued, yet still stands out in a way that looks very unique and clean.

The green one that sold on monday had crank handles also Doc . I had to leave it as i couldnt handle no fast glass LOL

This Grey Car was owned by a fellow FL member on this site , who had sort of promised he'd call me when he decided to sell the car , as we spoke at length about the car about 3 years ago . He was a nice guy .
I never heard from him and it looks like he died and someone got the car and overhauled many items , and is now for sale .

I love the red trim , that and the spring special /optional trim is the stand out for me . I could leave the grey, its to similar to the ribbed aluminium siding for me .

Don't want power windows ? buy a Firedome. That's what they're for !

Power windows are the one, singular power option I insist on. Prone to trouble
or not, that is the one goodie I really like. I am always amazed how few
Fireflite and NY'er 2 doors got power windows.

Obviously a beatiful car. I like the subtle white body and grey lid that keys with
the aluminum sweep insert. Personally, I'd prefer a more contrasting color sweep
and roof of more distinctly 50's pastels, if I had to dream it up from scratch, but
this car wears it well and looks very elegant. I would have never left the car in its
original all-white, with red interior. Just too ordinary for such a top shelf 50's car.

Ah, ... now you're getting to the nuts and bolts of the issue. A power window set up
is only available at Unobtainium Auto Parts and the cost is an additional $46K, installed !

Not sure how many of you have 'added' power windows but the end result is worth it. You can use modern parts to accomplish the trick but I chose to use all original parts for an installation that looked 'completely factory original'. One member on the FL discussion board was selling a complete four door power window setup so I bought it and installed it. This is not for the faint of heart since it required punching holes in the door and door jam sheet metal as well as relocating the manual window crank hole in the door panels to accommodate the original location of the power window switches. The 61 had already been painted but carefully punching holes in sheet metal was not that big of a deal. The door panels were being restored anyway so I told the upholsterer not to cut any holes in the new panel so I could locate them correctly. The parts were not that expensive but they are difficult to find. I went to Wildcat Auto Wrecking in Oregon to finally get the front door inner support metal brackets for the window motors but all other parts were included in the initial purchase of the power window package. You may have to address wiring and circuit breaker details as well. You need to be completely committed to the upgrade before starting it. I was committed or should be committed for adding power windows but it's nowhere near the commitment needed for adding air conditioning using factory original parts. Don't get me started about adding 6 way power swivel seats or Auto Pilot or signal seeking radio or child proof rear door locks.....maybe I should go commit myself right now...……………..

I am with Carsten, I prefer not to have power windows. Having them isn't bad, when they work, but it's just another thing that can stop working.

I suspect that the "just one more thing to fix" way of thinking increases
exponentially, based on the number of cars one has to keep going. When
it is just one or two, not such a big deal. Six or eight, that is a lot of systems
to maintain !

Honestly, I would not want power windows on my Plaza. It goes against the
nature of a stripper car. But a Fireflite, especially an elegant 2 door ? Gotta
have those little switches on the door panels !

Power Windows are a near must have option for me as well. I've owned 3 FL cars with them and if I bought another high end model it would have to have them or I probably wouldn't buy it!! Even with all the gremlins that have stalked my 60 Saratoga power windows, I still love them and now am an expert on finding breaks in wiring, bad circuit breakers, bad motors.... and yes, they are all presently working on the Saratoga!

Doc you read my my post wrong , i said i didnt buy the green 58 Flite as it didnt have fast glass . Not the other way around !

Our 57 New Yorker coupe doesnt have Elec windows and neither did our last one . Depending on where the cars came from , i think many would not have opted for new fandangle things like everything electrical if they were old thinkers in the boon docks . But then again why would you buy such a futuristic car if you were from the boon docks either , so who knows !

I would say that most New Yorkers & Fireflites in this era didn't come with power windows. Many 300's didn't come with them either, but were added later by their future owners. My 300C is a manual window car. I think that in general, people were more practical back then. And none of the lower end cars like Firedome, Saratoga & Windsor that I have encountered had them either. If you really want them, it is possible to add an electric motor as an aftermarket add-on, but not as neat as having the original setup. As time went on, they became more & more common on the high end cars so you are more likely to see it on a '60 New Yorker than on a '57.

Holy cow!  It is a friggin' fire sale on Fireflites!  Never seen so many '58s for sale in such a short time.

This is a beautiful car.

Still, my motto is: "if it ain't a 'dome, it ain't comin' home."
