I have recently gotten my IBM card for my 56 New Yorker St Regis from Chrysler Historical and I've been working on the decoding. After dealing with the card for my 56 Coronet (with a LOT of help from the posts here) this one is not too bad. I've figured out the punch pattern and verified that the printed numbers are correct. Some of the items listed I've been able to pick out such as the paint colors (309: black roof, white middle and red bottom) and the interior trim ( gray cloth and white leather with a gray dash pad). Other items however I am lost on. There are four option groups listed: Safe,Custom, Conv and Power. Does anyone have any information on what these consisted of? I know that I have some interior options like a clock that aren't listed separately so I assume they're included in one of these but I'm not sure. I'm just getting started on this car and, unlike my coronet, I know very little about this one. There is no body plate, no motor and the interior has had a lot of changes done to it. This card is going to be my main source of making sure it's back as close as possible to original. Any help you guys can give me with the decoding or pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Your photos are too small at 36 kB when the limit is 250 kB. 1024 x 768 pixels is somewhere around 180 kB and it is a good size.

Then we can see your card better and try to help you.

In the meantime, you should buy this on eBay:

Here are some similar examples of your car's colour scheme:

Not sure who you are Igor but that was a great first post. Welcome to the Forum.

Here is an enhanced version of that IBM card (but it is still not as good as a better, sharper, larger, photo of it):

Thanks so much for the help. Sorry about the pictures. they wee the first ones I could get to upload last night after a lot of trial and error. I'll try again. I've got a copy of the paint codes/color samples but I haven't been able to find the other brochure yet. Igor, it is so much help knowing what was included in those option packages and I knew the radio code was oddball but I didn't realize it was the hiway hifi code. Something to look for when everything else is done haha. Anyway, thanks again to you both.

One more question if anyone knows. The powerflite that came with this car is not a run of the mill powerflite. According to the man that rebuilt it for me, it is the heavy duty unit that was used in the 300s and Adventurers. As far as I know, it's the original transmission to the car. Is there any way to very this with the IBM card or am I going to have to hope I luck up and find a build sheet when I start taking it apart?

There were some Powerflites that were liquid cooled with a heat exchanger between the engine and the radiator., likely because they were deemed to be heavy duty service. You might have one of those.

Find the Powerflite number stamped on the side of the case (like the Torqueflite photo below) and compare it to the Powerflite assembly part number list below. The heat exchanger is shown in the diagram below.

It was set up as water cooled. It also has several extra clutch discs and some different machining internally to handle to extra workload to make room for the clutch pack. It's currently in my 56 Coronet until we diagnose the issue with its powerflite. It's definitely designed to run compared to a regular powerflite. My sleepy little Coronet isn't sleepy anymore.

Find the assembly number stamped (not cast) on the case edge and report back. Sounds intriguing.

Here is the number stamped on the side of the transmission casing, I didn't see anything like it on the you attached.

1C 36235PH-30-55

The man that rebuilt it has been building mopar transmissions since the late 50s. He told me at the time that the numbers matched up to a Desoto Adventurer and wondered if I knew how it got into this New Yorker.

Hmm....I don't recognize that number and none of my part number sources seem to either.

I did chase 1636 237 from the list above into the 50-65 Mopar Parts Interchange pdf and found some info. It didn't flag any thing special, if any thing, just the opposite.

I would like to know where your transmission guy got his info.

Knowing Marvin, it's from some book he's had on his shelf since the 50s. I owe him a phone call. I'll see if he can tell me where he looked it up at. Like I said, he's been a MOPAR mechanic specializing in transmissions since these things were new. He's 98% retired but he'll still take on something occasionally if it interests him and he likes forward looks.

Update on the transmission stamping. After seeing it didn't match anything, I went out with a better light and put the car up on a jack so I could get closer. The C is a lightly stamped 6 and what I thought was a P is actually a smaller capital D I guess to fit under the bolt head that is right there. So the correct number is 1636 235 DH - 30 - 55. That looks pretty close to the heavy duty 56 powerflite in your list.

Well 1636 235 is at least in the same ball park. With that number I checked the two parts catalogue pdfs that I have and nothing came up. Then I went old school and found it in my 56 Mopar parts catalogue hardcopy. See attached.

Must be the same book that Marvin has.

Looks like 1636 235 was used in the Adventurer and the C71 Chrysler Windsor with the "Power Package" and then the other larger Chryslers but NOT the C300.

On a related Chrysler Windsor note, I have a 1736 544 Torqueflite that I bought to rebuild and install in my 56 Dodge D500 (it will bolt up with a cross member shift and a shorter driveshaft). My 1736 544 came from a 57 Chrysler Windsor (probably a 354 poly). Arizona_mopar_gold (John S.) has a 1736 546 (two numbers away from my 544) connected to his 57 D500 325 hemi Sierra engine.

John's 546 shows up as being for LP2 Fury, LP2, LD2, and S27. Since those are all 58 cars, his transmission might have been replaced at some point (or who knows?). My 1736 544 doesn't show up in the parts books that I have.

Bottomline: Your 1636 235 is a real, good, part number. See below

Just finished talking to Marvin. He pulled the number from a 1956 Motor's Manual. Apparently he has them all from the early 50s on. Makes me wonder with that transmission whether the car had the standard 354 hemi single 4bbl or if that was upgraded too. Might be why it was taken. Thank you so much for all your help. This car is going to be a long process but now I know what I have and where it needs to go.That's a big step in the right direction

I would be surprised that the St.Regis would have 2 x 4 bbls because that would be C300 territory (and warrant the 1676 190 Powerflite).

Here is what the brochure said about a) the Windsor and b) the larger New Yorker family (but not C300) models engines:

That will be what goes back in it. I have a 56 Imperial complete rust bucket with a good drive train available to me (from Marvin) that will go in it. He also has a really nice 354 dual 4bbl hemi motor all built and ready to drop in but it's out of my price range. Thank you again for all the info.
