Found in my Dual Ghia database –
Just for the information, no confirmation or references to it, just the picture and that’s all;
Chassis No. 154;
Engine No. D500-3441;

It could be found at the RM auctions, but not sure…

Thanks for that list Igor. I will pursue them to see if they have engine numbers listed (somewhere).

Here is one 154 write-up (no engine number)

https://www.classic.com/veh/1957-dual-ghia-154-mWjeJJn/

Here is another (Goodings and Company, Auctioneers), but this time with the engine number:

https://www.goodingco.com/lot/1957-dual-ghia-7/

I will look for the others (3 down and 17 to go)

A form of confirmation (but I actually don't believe that 3441 would have been original to the car. Seems too old since
all the other ones seem to be in the 77nn series. (???)

I am working my way down that Dual Ghia list, hoping to find listings with D500 engines and D500 engine numbers. Bumped into this one. Listed as 260 hp (D500) but showing as a D500-1 with dual 4 bbls.

From what I have read, no D500-1 engines were installed at Dual Motors back in the day so this one is some kind of wishful thinking mod.

Regardless, NO engine number provided.

Well, I pursued the Dual-Ghias trying to find more information about their use of D500 double rocker (hemi) 260 hp 4 bbl dual exhaust engines and learned that Dual Motors (Eugene Casaroll's
company that put the Dual-Ghias together) had ordered 50 56 Dodge D500 engines and 50 56 Dodge 230 hp 4 bbl polys in advance of producing the 117 odd 56-58 Dual-Ghias

By scouring the internet for information about specific Dual-Ghia cars, I found information about 35 or so Dual-Ghias, of which about 18 were noted as having D500 engines.

Unfortunately, of those 18 or so, only 5 actually listed D500 engine numbers, i.e. No. 154 with D500-3441, No. 124 with D500-7716, No. 128 with D500-7715, No. 145 with D500-7718
and No. 197 with D500-7723. To be truthful, I am skeptical about No. 154 and D500-3441 because the timing (month/year-wise doesn't seem right).

That said, I posted what I found in a separate thread with a Dual-Ghia engine number table (including some 230 hp D633-nnnnn polys)

This thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=79827&...

with this table (and now I've added those 5 D500 engine numbers to the on-going 56 D500 "registry") - below:

The updated D500 engine number table:

Since I got my 56 Custom Royal D500 almost three years ago now (Sept. 16, 2016), I have been collecting info about D500's, including engine numbers. They started building the D500 engines in Nov/Dec 1955 and the first ones went into cars build in late Dec. 1955. (They started at D500-1001 and someone here as -1003). I have heard unsubstantiated rumours of engine numbers as high as D500-12nnn but the highest one that has been more or less substantiated is 8120 which was cast in June 1956. Since it was supposedly a month between block casting and completed installation, I am having trouble believing that there were 4000 more engines made between June and the end of the 56 Dodge model run in Sept/Oct.

While poking around the 55-58 Mopar Part book (pdf) for double breaker distributors (like the IBK-4301A (PN 1642 392)), I noticed two things:

1. Engines after D500-4403 were supposed to have a single point distributor, i.e. Autolite IBP-4002D (PN 1779 952), not the double breaker IBK 4301A.

My D500's engine number is D500-4603 which should have meant it had the single breaker distributor. Nope. It has the IBK 4301A. Go figure.

2. The other interesting note was the single breaker D500 distributor should be for "Eng. No. D500-4430 to Eng. No. D500-11736". Say WHAT? 11736 ???

As shown in other posts in this thread, that is not very believable. The highest engine numbers that I have seen have only been June castings of engines in the low D500-8nnn range.

But yet, the parts book, right or wrong, says D500-11736. If true, I wonder where they went?

Yesterday (Dec. 3rd) Hunter D. flagged up a seemingly legit 56 Dodge D500 to me that had a VIN that was only 27 from his (3505 2838 vs 3505 2811) on Hemmings.
There was no engine number posted so Hunter asked the seller what it was. The seller replied that "the engine number is D500-1029".

That make it only 26 from Hunter's car's engine. It also implies that they (the Dodge Main, Hamtramck, factory) were busy building the first
batch of 56 D500's in advance of the Dec. 22, 1955 56 D500 release announcement date (Hunter's D500 was built on Dec. 16, 1955). It is not clear what the
production date of 3505 2828 (D500-1029) actually was (there is something wrong with the cowl data tag that was posted). That said, it is probably close to Hunter's
D500, i.e. in mid-December 1955.

Here is the link to my discussion of the Hemmings advert:

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=80510&...

Here is the updated D500 engine number list with this "new" D500.
