When it comes to resale valve on car, is 6volt better or upgrade to 12 volt?
Is originality of year made, better also in todays market?

Thank you in advance.

If it's a restoration you should leave it 6 volt.

If it's a modified car, I see no reason to not like the upgrade if done correctly and having a professional look. I've seen lots of guys put GM alternators on but the wiring looks like a hacked together mess, and it's a simple one wire. There's currently a 60 Desoto for sale that's had fuel injection added, and I'm not impressed with the wiring in the pictures. It's very easy to get it wrong it seems.

Once you go that route you would totally lose the interest of someone that might like to return it to stock one day.

Very rare, expensive collector cars are more valuable completely stock. But most of our cars don't fall into that category - especially for the '55-'56 range. In general, all modifications are accepted even by stock purists if it is unnoticeable, like a hidden electronic ignition. If you make your 12 volt conversion tastefully done and hide it well, then it won't likely affect the value, even from those who want stock cars. But for cars that aren't worth much to begin with, like most '55-'56 Mopar products, people expect to use the car more than just having a museum piece, and a 12volt conversion is a welcome change for most people, so it will actually increase it's value because that's the first thing they are going to want to change on it anyway.

In "today's market", I truly doubt that anything with a 6 volt (or early 12 V), i.e. 55/56 is very likely to be an money-making investment. In terms of 6 V Mopars, I *REALLY* doubt that they are investments at all.

Personally, when I was looking to buy a 55 or 56 Dodge or Plymouth, I decided that I didn't want anything with a 6 V system. Too limiting in terms of aftermarket or even NOS parts. Plus my high school/university car was a 6 V 55 Canadian Dodge and on the Prairies in the winter (-40C/F back in those days), it was a nightmare to have a 6 V car.

I would favour a 55 whatever that had been converted to 12V over a 55 whatever that was still running 6V.

I say, convert to 12V but in a manner that doesn't prevent somebody from going back to 6V should they be so inclined.
