Extreme Veteran Posts: 585 Location: SE Arizona | I've had this idea bouncing around for a few days now and thought I'd throw it up here for comments and further sugestions. Has anybody besides me ever considered doing an early 60s style mild custom with a 57-58 Plymouth? Unfortunatly I'm a little far along and comitted to what I'm doing with my 57 to make any major changes at this point but kind of thought I'd see what peoples reaction would be. YOu never know I may pick up another 57-8 just to try it. The 60's mild customs generally consisted of milder touches than the full blown 50s customs had done to them so I'm thinking if a guy could find the right pats it would be almost bolt in. Her's what I've come up with so far: Nose and deck it (basically remove the front hood/trunk emblem/letters and either remove the exterior trunk lock completly and go with a cable or electric inside release. Removal of the rear fender modle name plates. Tubular grill and the same treatment on a 58 lower valance. Instead of shaving the exterior door handles use door handles from a 57-8 Dodge. Dual rear antenas and dual mirrors. Complete dash change to a 57-58 Dodge dash (it's a bolt in and I always loved the ribbon speedometer and flip around ash tray) 4 bucket seat interior (preferably swivel buckets) from an early 60's chrysler. A bright candy apple paint job and chrome reverse wheels with baby moon caps. Any other thoughts or comments? Good or bad idea? Other mods?

Member Posts: 14 Location: NE Florida | Yeah...I thought about doing that to my '57 at first, too...but I guess I'm more of one of those despised, traditional 'rat rodder' types...I was gonna slam mine...tinted glass... trim-rings with moons on stock steelies and wide whites...smoothed emblems, with only the "V" and a single spear...shaved handles...tubular grille...shot all over with black suede or satin JD Blitz Black....but, I've got a '62 F**d 2-door Falcon station wagon with a 302 already going in that direction, so I guess I'll keep my FL baby closer to stock...maybe "Christine" it instead... Expert Posts: 3966 Location: DFW, TX | By the way Mike, if you decide to put a '58 lower valence on your '57, think about me - I'm looking for all three front valence pieces for my '57! I can't find them anywhere, I've just about given up.

Expert Posts: 3966 Location: DFW, TX | Ah HA. So now I know who built the '59 Dodge Suburban. That one really tripped my trigger. Nice job there, Lou. Should I assume this is also your Silver Special? And here's a few more pics of customs (the Fury and 2dr Dodge wagon aren't hardcore customs or anything, but one is lowered and the other has mags ) for anyone that's interested... Expert 5K+ Posts: 7385 Location: northern germany | i LOVE the plodge! all it needs is a lowering job and skirts. the 56 plymouth is my kind of kustom (except the color) clean low with spinners, whitewalls and cruiser skirts. i love it. i like that beige 58 too except for the antennas and chromed radiator support that shines thru the grill. that looks ugly. should be flat black.

Expert Posts: 3966 Location: DFW, TX | I'm really hoping someone knows something about this '58 Plymouth. This photo was taken at Watson's in CA in the very late '50s. This was still a brand-new car. I haven't seen another '58 done quite like this, and just based on these miniscule pictures, I think it's one of the better looking custom '57-58s I've seen. Does anyone have any additional pictures of this machine? BTW, based on the grille emblem, it looks like a six-cylinder!! What a picture....PRICELESS!!!! Too bad I didn`t have a camera with me. I`m going to be selling the "Green Machine" Silver Special soon. I`m gathering up money to buy the wagon back. I`m detailing the engine as we speak. It`s the same color as the wheels. I`ll get pictures over the weekend. If anybody is interested, motor, trans, rear has 18,000 miles on it.
