I've looked and looked and can not find the stock wheel dimensions, including offset, for my 1960 Adventurer.

I like the early hotrod look and am thinking of having a second set of wheels and tires, aftermarkets, to change over to when I want that look. American Racing TorqThrust II is a good looking alternative with the gloss black spokes that I believe will look great on my car.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. A reference where I can look up the specs would be super appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

The standard wheel offset for a 60/61 Desoto is 1/2", just like on any 60/61 full size Plymouth.

In Wizard's diagram, A= offset, B= back spacing.

"C" = rim width + 1 inch.

? You mean - 1" ? The advertised rim width is not the outer width, like in Wizards diagram. And of course John is right, I'm pretty sure that was a typo.

No, it is as I said. Think about it. You are thinking of the same thing but with the 1 on the other side of the equation. Rim Width = C - 1"

Rim width (wheel width) is always expressed by the inside bead-to-bead dimension. The outside dimension is irrelevant because that dimension varies with the rim design.

An update - So I'm looking to purchase a set of aftermarket wheels in a period appropriate style for my '60 Adventurer. I have grown accustomed to having he 20-something auto pars store counter "expert" give me the deer in the headlights look and ask "Who make Desotos?" but I wasn't prepared for that same response from people who are supposedly experts in the wheel industry. Using the image that Wizard so kindly provided, the knowledge that 1960Fury has so nicely bestowed and even an offer of bringing in an original wheel from the car for the dealer to measure, I still get the response that no one makes aftermarket wheels for cars of the era. I've spoken with numerous reps from brand name manufacturers and am somewhat bewildered by the lack of knowledge most have on the issue.

I'd love to locate the original hubcaps that came on the car but I believe they were stolen years ago. I may just bite the bullet and invest in a clean set but, from what I've seen, they'll cost me as much as a set of brand new aftermarket wheels- if I can find the correct fitting wheels. Oh, well, there's still time before Spring arrives and I hit my milestone of having her back on the road with an entirely new brake system and anything else that arises repaired/replaced.

Any suggestions from the crowd would be deeply appreciated.

If you want to use the (nice design) OE hubcaps you will have to stick with original wheels (BigM?) since the 60 DS hubcaps, or wheelcovers, attach to the rim in a special way. You may find a different way with some modifications, but it isn't that easy.
If not, there are manufacturers that build custom steel wheels in all sizes, offsets and styles.

Hey Fury,

I'm actually looking to do the unthinkable - use aftermarket wheels. I like the American Graffiti look and want to use something that looks period for the car. I'm leaning towards the American Racing Torq Thurst line of wheels, probably the polished rim with the grey center. I'd love to see another Desoto or even a Saratoga with them on but I've yet to find a pic of one.

The rest of the car is bone stock and I don't plan on changing anything else. The goal is to keep the car as my uncle had it but to also to make it my own, if that makes sense. I can't see how a set of wheels and good tires can detract from the great lines or even the value of her but I'm sure someone will find an error in my ways.

Wishing you all the best.

I too am lusting after American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, exactly as you stay, polished rim and grey spokes for my 1956 Dodge. So far all I have found for examples are these:

Afternoon 56D500boy,

Great images. I'm very fortunate to have found one of the last hot rodders in my neck of the woods who knows his stuff and owns a tire shop. He's working to get me the right wheel tire combo for both the fit and look. Right now we're looking at a 15x7 wheel with 225x17x15 Cooper Cobras on them. I'll let you know how that turns out.
