The fabled Clown car! I'm not a clown (my opinion!), but I would like one of these cars. This one looks pretty good in the pics. I want a black one. Steve.

Quoting from a Facebook Thread regarding this car, ( NOT MY quote) it's pretty shoddy.
This quote is from one of our well known members whose work is pretty much as good as you can get.

" I’m one who encourages and supports beginners and folks on a budget trying to build their dream cars.... BUT THIS s**t IS GETTING OUT OF HAND!!!!!! 77k for a cobbled together, possible Mopar Mel build... I sold him an excessive amount of my Mylar sportone material, and since I personally cut the 226 finished sets I sold from 1998-2014 I can see by the pattern cut non-parallel to the upper trim, I didn’t cut these. Also features the quintessential Mel interior kit, also using my Mylar in a sorta-fury door panel scheme... someone dipped their hand in tar and finger painted the flat sheet metal tacked in floors, 1 body mount dead ends at the frame, seats are bolted straight through the floors without even a fender washer as reinforcements! Imaging 6 months of driving? The seats will tear the sheetmetal! Rockers... I think ray Charles could have done better lol.. if it was 40k asking and negotiated to under 30k (I sold a far better example for 35k plus a rust free coupe trade in worth about 10k last summer for example) I could see someone accepting a beginner fix up like this... can’t call it a resto.. also, for 77k I think you should have at least a radio that doesn’t looks like it’s freshly Brillo’d out of a junkyard

I am a clown and enjoy my clown car and the joy it brings people when they see it. Most people in the street who talk to me don't even know what "Christine" is. I've been restoring cars for 35 years and a Chrysler fan for most of that so I don't own mine purely because of a movie. I wear big boy pants now.
It's strange, I've never seen this type of angst towards other movie car clones on other various forums or groups. Some of those cars have even less build numbers. Car builds or purchases are someone else's personal "pride and joy".

I guess it's the same as I enjoy seeing a good restored 4 door forwardlook car because a lot of people ONLY restore 2 door HT's.

Me too I wish I grabbed 1 instead of a '61 fury . My dad said the body on the Christines would of been a lot easier to work on.

That's really odd that people don't associate it with Christine. Nearly everyone who talks to me about my '58 Coronet can't help themselves but ask if it is Christine. Many will even say it is Christine without asking even though it isn't red and it doesn't have the same fins or grille to it. The same is true for my Chrysler & DeSoto. That movie seems to be the only association with forwardlook mopars that people have, so they all get labeled that way. The whole association just gets really tiring. It's ridiculous when people purposefully replace the front grille of a '57 Plymouth 4dr sedan with a '58, paint it red and call it Christine. Even the real '58 2dr hardtop Christines get old because they all look the same. Boring. Even real '57-'58 Furys can't escape from having body panels replaced and being painted red. Don't think other movie cars get similar flack? You haven't been around Dukes of Hazard Chargers very long. Many of those old Dukes cars have been repainted now just to eliminate the association. People grew really tired of it and the fad passed on. The same thing will happen with Christine cars too. Many of these red cars will be painstakingly redone just to make it look like something other than Christine once people get tired of seeing yet another one.

Notice that they removed the under-carriage photos that revealed the really crappy floor and rocker "repairs" that were made to it along with all the slathered tar crap that tried to hide it. This car is worth a small fraction of what they are asking for it.

It's also poorly done in that it has a presumably well-built 440 but they used a cast iron T-flite. If the engine is as strong as it should be....that trans won't last long. But more than that, look at the pushbuttons and the radio bezel - they look appalling. That tells you just how many shortcuts they took. Look at the crossmember and suspension arms - you can see they painted over crud. For $77K....I expect a bit more.

Why wouldn't the trans last? They put same one behind the 413 in the chrysler 300's with +/- 380-400 horsepower?

Cuz they're not that strong. That's why the 727 was developed.

Here is the VIN number of this car in case it changes hands in the future. It's good to warn potential buyers for things to look out for.
