I'm looking for original windshield gaskets, front and rear, for my 1956 Imperial coupe with sun visor trim (this does make the front gasket unique). I have aftermarket gaskets in my car now and the trim doesn't fit properly. My original gaskets were dry rotted and hard and unfortunately broke apart during removal. Had I known about the Gojo hand cleaner trick at the time, I would have used some to save the gaskets. Live and learn I guess. Here are the factory part numbers and applications:

Front = 1598 829, all 1955 and 1956 DeSotos, Chryslers and Imperials with sun visor trim, any body style or model other than convertible
Rear = 1620 173, all 1955 and 1956 DeSoto FireFlite and Adventurer, Chrysler New Yorker and Imperial 2 door hard tops only (unique based on body style and how trim fits into gasket)

Thanks.

Steele Rubber has them. Same ones as on my 55 Desoto with visor. Their original pattern for the windshield gasket was 3" too short on the bottom. So they cast a custom one for me that fit perfectly. Hopefully, they fixed their pattern.

I can't vouch for the rear gasket, since mine is still good enough. If they send you the gaskets and they don't fit perfectly in the channel, call them immediately.

Ron

Too good to be true. When John went to remove the gasket, it began to break apart despite looking and feeling ok. The search continues.
