So, I was told by the guy behind me after he told that he loved my car that my brake lights were out. I've been out in the driveway and taillights work as do the signal lights L & R fine but the brake lights are intermittent and I can't figure out why. The brake light switch was replaced within the last year by the PO. Is my signal switch going out? It could be my imagination but the blinkers could have gotten slower as they blink. My wife noticed that at times when I depressed the pedal lightly no lights come on but a fully depressed pedal seems to work fine. No other options or accessories are affected. thank you.

It is possible that the new switch is going bad.

There might be info in this thread (below) that you will find useful/helpful:

Good luck

Adjust the brake light-switch under the dash.

My brake light switch is located on my new master cylinder which was replaced along with the switch last year by PO.

Adjust the brake light-switch under the dash.

So by 61 they had done away with the pressure switch on the master cylinder and gone to a plunger type switch that was activated by the brake pedal arm?

Something like these?

Ah yes, It's been awhile I seen those. None of my cars have a brake-light switch on the MC anymore.

This is how I remember my 65 Sport Fury to be but mine appears to be connected to bottom of my cylinder as I don't see anything connected to my brake pedal. Granted this was late last night but I previously looked during the afternoon prior to posting as I expected it to be as your diagram details.

You have the older style pressure switch at the bottom port of the master cylinder. It might have failed. But first simply check the wiring to and at the switch, it might be flaky.

Aaron,

I have experience here as I have a 1960 and 1961 plymouth 2 door sedans. I had the same issue, turned out to be worn contacts in my turn signal switch. I had to pull the steering wheel to get at it, but not too hard to do. I replaced the switch and my brake lights and turn signals worked properly again. Here is a link to a replacement switch:

I'm going to remove steering wheel today to put eyes on the switch, how far into the steering column do I need to go? Any surprises that I should be aware of? Thanks,
