I've been trying to help Steve B. in Australia with finding a carburetor to replace the WW3-133 2bbl Stromberg that came on his "LC" (low compression?) 315 Poly in his RHD 56 Dodge Custom Royal 4 dr sedan. In N.America the 3-133 was used on the 55 270 engines and a WW3-140 was used on the 56 315 Polys. We can find rebuild kits for a 3-140 but we can't find a 3-140 core to rebuild.

So plan B might be to use a different 2 bbl carb, maybe from a 57 or 58 Dodge, e.g. 325 poly in 1957 and ??? in 1958. Here are the PNs that I know about but I don't know what to recommend to Steve. He has a Powerflite so I guess he needs a 2 bbl with a dash pot.

My understanding is there's a 2 bl carb used on the 360 LA that will work on the early engines if a spacer plate is used, or the bore holes are opened up.

the later Chrysler engines, 360 and larger 2 bbl. will bolt on without needing an adapter. I am running a carb on my 79 Dodge truck 360 that came from a 63 dodge 383. The 318 and smaller engines with a 2 bbl use a smaller bolt pattern base. You may have to modify linkage.

Um, what's wrong with the 3-133 Stromberg that he has ? If it's missing, why not just find another 3-133. Folks try to jury-rig a later carb onto an early engine, then wonder why it never runs right and floods/stalls.

Because a 3-133 was for a 1955 270 and the 3-140 was for the normal 1956 218 hp 315 poly. Steve knows that and wants a 3-140. There is no way to know whether the 3-133 was put on his "LC" (maybe "low compression") 315 poly engine at the factory (Detroit) on purpose or whether it was changed from a 3-140 to a 3-133 some time between 1956 and last year when he got the car (not running). When he got the car, it had a 3-133.

But I hear what you are saying. Steve is asking me what the difference between a 3-133 and a 3-140 is an the only thing I see is the accelerator pumps are different. He's also not sure whether it should have a dash pot or not.

I'd talk to John Fowlie or one of the vendors that advertises in Hemmings that specializes in carbs. I seriously doubt that the factory put on the wrong carb.

Back in the day, you could buy reconditioned carbs at an auto parts store. The original was likely replaced back in the day after the owner messed with it enough to cause a fail-to-start condition.

I can verify that the original Stromberg WW3 on my 58 Coronet with 325 V8 and Powerflite does not use a dashpot; the choke pull off is an internal piston type.
