Looks great until you see that smashed window and fins. Hopefully this doesn't end up parted out. The rest of the car looks nice enough to try and save this thing. Rebuilt engine. Seller has before and after pics.

Ouch. Too bad the roof i damaged too. If you look at the squarish indent it does not look like tree damage. Could/should be relatively easily fixed. I hope too it doesn't become a parts car but not much hope, since it is in the US and it is a 4 door

I'm going to go take a look at this one. If I buy it I won't part it. It is going to have to be pretty darn nice other than that crunch though. That's going be be a lot of work and money. I'm pretty sure I read the 57-59 4dr hdtp rear glass will interchange. Can anyone confirm?

BTW, talked to the owner. The building it was stored in collapsed.

Well *I* can't confirm 59 but for 57-58 the rear window for the 4 dr hardtops was the same for Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto and Chrysler. Imperial was different.

It wouldn't work to mount a 2dr hardtop roof because the doors & door windows would be in the way. You could try to adapt a '60 big window roof to it, but there would be an awful lot of customizing required to make it work and you would lose all the neat roof trim of the '59.

I also have a window available for this car from a '57 Chrysler 4dr hardtop.

I'll know more when I go see it. Listed as a Firedome, but has Fireflite trim. It has a Fireflite VIN. Where are the front fender emblems? Where are the emblems for the circles above the check mark? Perhaps the restoration included some personal preferences that account for the differences from factory. The front fenders have no emblems and there are no holes. That raises a flag in my mind. Bondo? Hopefully seeing it in person will answer a few questions I have.

Of course I meant 4 (four) door hardtop big window. Or was this not available in 57-59? I thought it was, but seems to be a 1960+ option only.

Easy fix. 15 hrs metal work on the quarter. Dont see any roof damage. New back glass and you have a nice car.

What's the best way to tackle that quarter panel repair? If you could get to it from the inside, it might not be too bad. Perhaps remove the vertical door jam panel first? Sounds like a lot of work just to do that.

There is limited access from the trunk and behind the rear seat. At least on my 57 4dr hdtp there is. I expect the 59 to be comparable. You might be able to rig up something with a porta-power. I think that would be my first approach if I buy it. See how far I got with that. Number 2, cut and weld in a patch from a donor. Not a big fan of the puller approach... last resort.

I would take the car to a reputable body shop with a frame rack. Anchor the car by the rockers and weld a pull tab to the 1/4 and do a verticle pull. With the tension on, hammer and dolly the area. Will have to shrink the metal.

He says that a beam fell on the car. Must've been a metal I-beam, judging from the dent.

This is not an easy fix. You need a really good body person to massage that metal back into shape. Then you have to deal with paint matching. Unless you are an expert, it's gonna cost you 4-6K or more to bring this back. That doesn't include finding and installing the rear window. Price is about double what he should be asking.

yeah its a cut and patch, you can get that part off a parts car very reasonable.

the door looks good and the trim survived, patch it in is the best way. i think that sport tone is paint right?

window is cheap also and sedan trim, paint matching should be that hard. it seems to be in great shape other than that damage, roof was just missed.

I disagree. I wouldn't attempt to patch this as the metal all around it has been stressed. Once you apply heat, it's going to move all over. I'm not saying you can't do it that way, but you would be much better off to get it mostly in shape before you do any cutting, and it would be best to not cut at all. If I were to do it, I think I would have a professional pull the main dent out with a pull tab as Paul describes, to get it close; and then remove the door jamb to get inside it and finish the job to get it really straight.

Hollander's shows the only rear windows that interchange with the '59 DeSoto 4-door HT are Chrysler and Dodge, also '59 4-door hardtops.

I have those available if you end up buying the car.

Regarding the quarter panel damage, as Paul said, a body shop with the proper equipment and talented bodyman can pull the damage. another method is to drill the spotwelds out, remove the quarter panel skin, straighten the rear door jamb and metal finish the skin. Reinstall at original spot welds with rosette welds, then redo the lead seams.

As it turned out my top offer and his bottom price were a ways apart. So... I headed home empty.
