Looking for the best spark plugs for my '57 Dodge, has the original red ram 325 poly head with a 2 bbl carb. Went around to my local auto parts stores and none of them could give me a hundred percent, definite answer on what the car was even supposed to use. I pulled the old spark plugs out and they were Champion J-12Y which all the places said are not made anymore, nor could they definitely confirm what the AR42's that are mentioned in the service manual are supposed to be. Everyplace had modern Champion spark plugs that they said should work, but all those had threaded ends that were about a good quarter inch longer then the originals that I pulled from the engine. So what modern spark plugs am I supposed to use? And which ones that do work, give the best performance? I found some autolite (85) spark plugs that appear to be a direct replacement but I am just trying to be careful, don't want to destroy a perfectly good engine by putting in the wrong ones. Thanks in advance.

I have a 1957 Dodge with the 325 Poly and have used either the Autolite 85, NAPA X-904 or AR-42 over the past 40+ years. All worked just fine.
