so my speedo started makign some noise and then the needle jumped all around and began erratically spinning around the face of the gauge. I was pretty mad since it worked beautifully before this with no problems... now it's not the cable, I unplugged it and it's as quiet as a mouse, is the speedo fixable? I also have another in the huge box of parts the previous owner left me.

.
Needs some lubrication.

You can see the wick holder/oil tube on the back of the speedometer in the second photo.

It's a good thing that you unplugged it quickly too, as when that happens, it will usually break the speedometer if left to do that very long.

I'm thinking it broke the speedometer, since the needle was spinning allthe way past 120 and back around again

If your wife has any sewing machine oil, that works great in there. It may have broken it, but it may not have. After you oil it up, give it another try. Speedometer shops can fix them if they are broken, usually.

we don't have a speedometer shop around here, and I'm not married I will try to find some of that oil though we do have some craft stores that might have it

You don't need a wife to purchase 3-in-1 oil
