Get aload of this price to have these items replated for my 59 cr .

From a place in wi. touch notch  triple replating  show chrome . That's crazy $$$$$$$$$$$$

4-tail lights $275 each

2-side moldings with grooves $475 each
1-hood ornament $475
All parts would be triple plated show chrome. There could be some repair charges after we get into it. These parts are known for having holes in them. We just finished parts like these about a month ago and we ran into some repairs we had to make. Thanks,

That's a scam.

You can't do this at home, takes a 10000 machine to spray for real.

I had my 58 bumper wings done for 80$ a piece. Fiberglass.

Those scammers sell a pint for like 100$... Total garbage, idiots still fall for.it

Potmetal is expensive to rechrome and have it look good.
When my chrome work was all complete I laid it out.
Add in the bumpers and you are looking at $20k.

Properly prepared, guaranteed, show quality, triple plating today does cost in the ball park of what lozrox58 is talking about. Been there and done that. My '56 Dodge CRL convertible did within the last year and was done by Ogden Plating, Utah.

I could live with that look . epoxy black , then killer chrome then clear coat . Real cheap. the 3 pints of killer chrome was $120 to do the job . article on this ALSA chrome is on forabodysonly WEB site if you want to read up on it. he was a autobody man so he had the clear and epoxy black at hand.

A side-by-side comparison to real chrome would probably change your mind.

If you fill a rust hole with bondo and paint over it, it will look great for a longer period of time than that painted chrome. If you are looking for cheap chrome, take what you have, polish it how it is, and spray it with clear.

That could be an option with chrome but I was more concerned with the pot metal items with all the pitting.

The only cheap option I know of is to do it yourself. Take all the parts and get them stripped. Dig out the pits and use muggyweld to fill them all back in. use a file and sander to get it back to proper shape (the hard part!), then have them all re-plated polished (in copper) as a batch process.

Ok . what would you use to dig out all the millon pits ? A little ice pick ? is that how a chrome replating business would do for filling the pits ?

Plating would be difficult if it had non-metal binders in it.

There are many videos about it on youtube. Here is one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tz4LJ8uEkZo

John,

I'm assuming you are working through the Chrome Shop in Menasha, WI. They do great work, but any quality chrome work anywhere is going to set you back big time. If you're not restoring, I would see what kind of results you see with cleaning and polishing. If you re-plate your chrome, then you will notice how shabby your paint is by comparison. Just clean it up and enjoy it as it is.

once you dig the pittting out , it's impossible to fill it correctly and sand it perfect. That is what I am told.

When I bought my '59 Dodge Coronet, most of its chrome was still at the platers and it took some $1400,- to get them to finish it all up.
This excluded the bumpers and the front eye-brows.
I plan to chrome-wrap the bumpers myself.

Yes, this is true. Anything with this level of detail will never clean up to anyone's satisfaction. Best is to try to find very good used, or someone that has a trove of NOS chrome.

no really true, its just a SERIOUS pita... takes a insane amount of time and the platers dont want to deal with it.

The best way I've found to clean out pot metal pitting is with a sandblaster and Al oxide media. You need to be careful about the pressure you set the sandblaster to.

I don't like sand - it's dirty and does not last long. You can get AL oxide at Harbor freight. It lasts about 4 times longer than sand and does a better job. I have used the sandblaster to remove chrome finish. As with anything else try to do no harm start with a lower pressure and work up.

That's the way my plater does it. The pits are then filled by numerous layers of the copper dip. When doing this the part loses its original shape and it then becomes a process of sculpting the copper before the final nickel/chrome dip.

The pros will take their time and fill each pit with silver solder. Then file down.

Otherwise, you'll receive your part back that looks like a hack job. Or they'll grind out the pits until the metal becomes so thin that it buckles. Best is to find nice, original potmetal or NOS.
