I am building a custom 1960 Plymouth and I was looking to use 57-58 DeSoto taillights/ housings. From the first time that I saw a 1957 DeSoto when I was 4 years old I said that I wanted a car with those fins and taillights on it. My situation is that I do not know the dimensions of a DeSoto taillight housing. I have only seen 3 57-58 DeSotos in person in my whole life time so it is kind of difficult finding one that I can use as a reference to take measurements. So I was hoping that someone on this site who owns or knows somebody who owns a 57-58 DeSoto could take measurements of the length, height, and width of the housing and relay it back to me.

To actually place them into a 1960 Plymouth fin could require some major modifications.  You can look at my measurements to decide.

would look weird i think with the desoto tail lights... would be sunk into the bumper almost.

not to mention a good set is expensive.

Grafting parts that are designed for a certain car into another looks almost always wrong. Build it yourself, so it fits the contours of a 60 plymouth (and maybe leave the body of that 60 unmolested/reversible )

PS I always wanted a boomerang shaped taillight on my 60 Fury and I started working on it years ago. Stopped the work, but if I ever continue, it will be reversible, no cutting of original sheetmetal,

I'd say the Desoto taillight is much too wide for a 60 Plymouth.

I agree with Sid.  If you want the De Soto tail light tower look, it would be best to custom manufacture a 1960 Plymouth bezel to accept the three De Soto lenses on each side.

However, part of the appeal of the 1957 De Soto is how the bezels are integrated with the rear bumper through the exhaust ports, which would be really tough to pull off.

Thanks everyone for the input. It definitely helped me move forward. As I expected the DeSoto taillight is going to be too wide and I am going to have to make my own taillight housings. My car was rear ended at some point in its life time causing the fin to wrinkle up just a little where the body meets the taillight housing. With that being said I have the ability to widen the fin a little, if need be, without messing up anything original (because the fins would have to be tended to anyway). When I get around to starting on the project I will post updates.

The Desoto housings are in two pieces, you might get away with just using the centre part?
