Regular Posts: 82 Location: Eastern Manitoba | This is one that they never made, but looks somewhat natural. It started life as a custom suburban 57 dodge 2dr wagon with the 313 3spd std. It has extra buttons on the radio for local and dist. , I am not sure what those are for. (plodge truck.JPG) Attachments ---------------- plodge truck.JPG (46KB - 232 downloads)

I am not against cutting things up but to waste a two door wagon is a bridge too far for me, it might make a good parts car. The distant radio button is to help bring in weak AM stations. Ask Sid ?

Expert Posts: 3575 Location: Netherlands | I never understood the concept, usefulness (and seemingly current popularity) of a 2-dr wagon... IMO, if you chose for a wagon at the time, it would be for transporting stuff around. Why would you chose to limit access to the side entry to the cargo-space by leaving the rear doors out? This pickup-conversion seems to at least make a 2dr wagon way more useful again

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9654 Location: So. Cal | I agree that the wagon body is best served in 4 doors. Like Herman, I don't really understand why people like the 2drs better. But, I really like the old Elko conversions. If it were mine, I would restore it as it is.

Regular Posts: 98 | Back in those days, long before child proof locks and car seats, we were afraid, justified or not, that kids would open the doors when driving and fall out! It was considered much safer to have a two door car for that reason if you had young children.

Regular Posts: 98 | Did you mean "suicide doors" ? 1947 Chevrolet doors were just like almost every other car back then, hinged to the center post.

It was considered much safer to have a two door car for that reason if you had young children. Don from Texas. Thankyou. For years I have wondered why American families bought 2 door cars. I am referring to coupes. And your explanation above makes so much sense. Note, in Australia we had very few coupes built. Picture- A Bloke and his Shelia go to the dealership to look at and buy a new car. Bloke says to the Shelia, ''if we get a coupe, no worries about the Kids falling out! Shelia says, ''Geez, thats a good idea!'' And they drive home in the Coupe! Makes so much sense!! Steve.
