Did anyone on here just buy a 58 Firedome 2dr hdtp out of South Dakota? Congrats if you did. I just missed it. Saw it on craigslist Wednesday night (29 Jan), called the guy on Thursday... it sold Wednesday night. He who hesitates is lost... or looses out in this case. Darn it.

Thanks for saving the pics. It was only up for a short time on craigslist. It was listed at $4500. Solid floors, trunk and rockers. Power steering and brakes. Interior was crispy but looked complete. Plus a full set of NOS tail lenses included. Somebody got a nice car to restore.

What a find! Looks like a cousin to my Firedome Sportsman with seacoast aqua as main color. Looks very untouched by human hands..

kpusabil (bil = car) imports US cars to sell, they comb the media and junkyards for them, the appetite for our cars there seems insatiable. Bo Malefors kind of started the wholesale shipping of cars over when he came to Phoenix in the '70s

When I bought my 'dome coupe locally a couple of years ago I was on it within hours of it's CL posting, within another day he'd had several calls from Sweden already. For those in the market without deep pockets good luck competing with that kind of relentless pressure.

Wow! This car was an absolute steal! Sorry you weren't able to get it “Macedon”. I would have bought it too. I love 57-58 DeSotos and you never see solid two door hardtops come up in this price range. And it wasn’t a Firesweep with the less desirable Dodge front end either.

Any photos of the interior so we can all torture ourselves some more?

Yeah, that was a steal at that price. I paid $5K for my '58 Fireflite and had to act on it the same day it came up to be able to beat out the Swedish, Finnish & Australian competition. But it was missing every exterior piece from it, and it's body isn't as good as this one. Good part is the motor was rebuilt and the interior redone - in black - bleh. I certainly would charge a whole lot more than I paid for mine if I were to get rid of it now. But that ain't happening.

“Powerflite”,were you lucky enough to find yours locally,or was it out of state? I agree about the black interior.

Too bad the last part of the last sentence was “but that ain’t happening” what color is your 58 Fireflite?

The seller was local to me, but the car was sitting in Arizona. It was originally French Turquoise & white, almost an exact duplicate of Mr. Phoenix's new car who lives close to me.

French turquoise is a great color, one of my favorites for the desoto. You said yours was that color,I’m assuming it got repainted a different color at some point?
Who is “Mr. Phoenix”,is that the user ID of someone here?

Charles Phoenix is semi-famous for making joy ride videos using classic cars from the '50's. He uses the catch phrase "I know!" alot. This is my car, and a picture of Charles' car.

Oh,Charles Phoenix. Small world! When you said “Mr Phoenix” I thought it was reference to a username or Dodge Phoenix. Ive run into him several times over the past 20 or so years just driving around going places. He’s all over the place,Los Angeles,Pomona, etc. He’s really into 50’s and 60’s modernism. The first time I was out with my girlfriend and he came up to me on the street to talk to me about my car. He wasn’t making video of cars back then. He was collecting old 8mm home movies from the 50’s and 60’s and showing them at events. He also wrote books on life in the 50’s and 60’s in Southern California. I think he also owns or owned a 1959 Fury.

Thanks for sharing the photos. Great cars, you’re both lucky to have 58 DeSotos.
