I got an offer for a 1956 Imperial oil bath air cleaner.
Can anyone tell if it is the same as for the 1955 Imperial?
Both were sitting on Carter 4bbl carburettors.

The part numbers are different between 1955 and 1956 but I would guess (99% sure) that if they were both sitting on a Carter WCFB four barrel carb with an approximate 4-7/32" air cleaner opening you would be fine.

There are indents on the bottom pan for a) the choke (on the passenger side), the fuel line (about in the middle) and then a big one on the driver's side to clear the power steering pump attached to the back of the generator. The air cleaner is attached to the carburetor via a long 10-24 (I think?) stud and wing nut.

C70 = Crown Imperial
C68/72 = New Yorker (55/56)
C69/73 = Imperial (55/56)

Similar 56 Dodge D500 air cleaner (mine) to show the factory indentations

There are some differences in style from '55 to '56, like I believe the '55 air cleaner is slightly taller than the '56 version. But they fit and function the same so you could use either one. 1954 was the first year for the 4bbl carb, and it's air cleaner is very odd looking with a large flat on the side of it. But even that one would work if you wanted to use it.
