I was taking the rear shoes off the car and encountered a type of shoe I've never seen before.

The middle of each shoe has a factory ground groove about a half-inch wide the entire length of each shoe. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? What purpose does the groove serve?

Hey Todd / N C Adventurer,
Cooling. Those are cooling grooves -- allows heat to escape.
I "Craigirize" all my N.O.S. ++ Asbestos ++ shoes
" W/ Grooves " when I get them. Those are a good thing.
Yours, Craig......

Morning Craig,

I thought it had to have something to do with either heat dissipation or a water channel to allow any water that would infiltrate the drum to channel through that groove.

Hope all is well with you. Will see you at Carlisle!
