Working to get my latest "find" out of the tangle of trees where the car has sat the past 40 years. Looking forward to getting it out and seeing how good/bad it is! At this point it's still a mystery.

It is kind of sad and kind of beautiful at the same time. Good luck with the rescue!

I'll get some pictures out when I finally get the car dug out. The car was completely overgrown and the pics I took were after an hour of trimming tree branches.

I hope all that crud on it acts as a preservative!  Somehow I doubt it - probably just the opposite.

Can't wait to see more!

Hopefully you aren't 39 years too late?

Steve.

Still working at getting the Desoto out! Car appears to be white and rose beige.

Actually, I haven't seen any rust thru on the outside yet. The last picture is about 4" of mulch sitting on the rear widow and covering the deck lid. The interior and trunk floors probably won't be as lucky. The Desoto does have dual rear antennas, deluxe roof trim and a 4 barrel engine.

Finally got the 58 Desoto extricated from the tree and bushes. Here's some pics of the car finally being loaded to bring home.
This car was gorgeous when new. It’s white with kind of a peach colored roof and spear. It came with dual mirrors, dual antennas, deluxe roof mouldings and it’s the only Firesweep I can ever remember seeing with a 4 bbl carb.

Amazing that it didn’t rot through where all the mulch sat for years. Did the floors and trunk survive?

Presumably the engine is a 350 which normally came with a 2bbl according to the brochure:

http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/desoto/58deso/58deso.html

However the 55-58 Mopar Parts catalogue does list a Carter WCFB 2642S for the LS1 (58 Firesweep) power package.

This might help:

Virtually all '58 Sweeps had the 350 2 bbl, as did mine. <------
I won a lot of bets with GM people who said Mopar never made a 350.

Finally got the 58 Desoto cleaned up. Here is a pic of the car in the trees, how it looked when we dragged it out and how it looks now. The Desoto even has the polarized sun visors.

Thanks John... almost bought this car in 1986! I finally got it almost 35 years later.
