Member Posts: 44 | Has anyone installed an Automatic Headlight Dimmer in a 59 Chrysler. If so, where do you mount the control box and is it necessary to modify any of the existing wiring harness?

Extreme Veteran Posts: 341 Location: Wisconsin | My '59 Fireflite control box is mounted on the driver's side behind the kick panel. I believe the wiring just plugs into the existing harness, no modification needed. It's in series with the floor-mounted dimmer switch and main harness.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 341 Location: Wisconsin | I snapped a couple photos today since I am (conveniently?) missing my kick panels. The box is mounted pretty high up, more behind the side of the dash. The wiring is behind where the kick panel should be. Member Posts: 44 | Thanks, the control box has a long and a short cable. Both have 3 wires, Black, red and green and both have female plugs. One for the floor dimmer and the other i believe would connect to the existing dimmer switch cable however they are both female. Are the 2 joined with some type of adapter cable?

Member Posts: 44 | Can anyone post a picture of the dash for the location of the scanner? Also, is the foot dimmer switch different for the auto system?

Extreme Veteran Posts: 341 Location: Wisconsin | If I think of it tomorrow, I can take a photo of my dimmer location (though my DeSoto may be different than a Chrysler) and take a closer look at the wiring. I believe the dimmer switch is the same between a standard system and the auto-dimming, but a check of the parts book would be good to confirm that.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 341 Location: Wisconsin | Here are a few photos of my '59 Fireflite. My auto-dimmer is currently not working, so I have by-passed it until I get around to fixing it. If I recall correctly, that black plug shown is the pigtail on the dimmer switch going directly to the main harness, the same as a standard car. With the box correctly plugged in for the auto-dimmer, it would go in series between those two plugs.
