what are you guys using  to replace the rivets in the outer door handles.  I need to replace the tension spring in the door handle and  install a longer drop down  rod arm  from another door handle . both have rivets in them, I was thinking of drilling the rivets out and using machine bolts with lock jam  nuts . hoping the rivers don't have a stepped shoulder on them. sugestions Please !

I had the rivets replaced by metal bars machined at a local workshop and then drilled a hole on the tail and put a small pin in it to keep it in place.

I grind off the peened over heads on the inside then drill straight through the pin and tap for a 8-32 screw. A screw with a thin head is installed from the inside out. In some installations a screw/nut won't fit through the opening in the door.

That is exactly what I did  !
