Technically, only the US engines were referred to as Golden Lion engines.....but the Canadian built cars still had the golden lion emblem on the grille. The US built 59-60 Chrysler Windsor and Saratoga both used the raised block 383, basically and underbored 413. In Canada, the Windsor had a low block 361, while the Saratoga had a low block 383. It was a completely different bore and stroke from the raised block 383. Both low blocks and raised blocks are part of the B series family of engines, and the heads are interchangeable as well as many other parts. There were also other subtle differences between the US built and Canadian built versions. The Canadian built 1960 Windsor had a completely different interior than the US built 60 Windsor, while the Canadian built Saratoga has exactly the same interior as the US version. The Canadian cars used a Jiffy Jet windshield washer system, while the US built versions used a complicated Trico Co-ordinated washer system. I'm in Canada, but I own a US built 1960 Saratoga.

The US Saratoga with the RB-383 four barrel was rated at 325 HP. I believe the Canadian model was rated the same.

Hi Per, yes the engine is a 383 Golden Lion but the Canadian 383 is not the same as the American 383.
Canadian 383 = Bore 4,25 Stroke 3,38 NOTE!! (US 383 = Bore 4,03 Stroke 3,75)

Update your profile with your location Per, I suspect that you're from Sweden and I can help you out with various info.

RB engines had more torque and didn't wind as quickly as the B engines. I prefer the B engines with the larger bore and shorter stroke - better for blowing the doors off the competition in drag races back in the day when the Polyglas GT tires were the best that were available then (which isn't saying much - yuk!).

The Canadian 1960 Chrysler Brochure specifically omits the words "Golden Lion" on the engine specifications, describing it as "V-8, 90-degree lateral OHV" whereas the US Brochure describes the engines as "Golden Lion V-8, 90 degree lateral OHV".

You can download various brochures, manuals, data books etc for free at this link on the WPC Club web site. There are both a 1960 Chrysler US and Canadian Brochures for download.
Viewing quality is best on the PDF files if you download and open with Acrobat rather than open in a new link or web page.

I find it strange that the Canadian Chryslers should have been marketed in another way than the American ones Ian.

What supports you is a photo I found on what looks to be an untouched Canadian Saratoga - the valve covers are silver and without the Golden Lion labels.
You have this car on photos to I beleive.

Yes, the Canadian built 1960 Chrysler engines were painted silver with black accessories and brackets. The fender wells were always painted black. They also used Jiffy Jet instead of Trico for the washers. My US built Saratoga has black fender wells, as built in the Los Angeles Plant, all other US plants painted them body colour.

I would assume the reason the Canadian 383 engines were painted silver is because they were all built on one assembly line for installation into any Canadian built Chrysler, Dodge, DeSoto or Plymouth that was being built with a 383, or even a 361. There was only One assembly plant in Canada, in Windsor Ontario. It would not have made economical sense to have the Canadian Chrysler engines use a raised block 383, or even a low block painted a different color from the engines slated for Dodge, DeSoto or Plymouth. Remember, the population of Canada is only 1/10 that of the USA and the market is much different. Back then there were tariffs on any cars that were built in the USA and sold in Canada. The 1960 New Yorkers sold in Canada were built in Detroit, and subjected to the tariffs, and therefore were much more expensive than those sold in the USA. Canada only built Windsor and Saratoga in 1960.
