I like the exterior and interior colors on this one. You don’t seem to see too many four door hardtops either.

Well if you like those colors check this nice Fireflite at the Ford Museum ( I know, weird right?).

Stunning car. The 57-58 DeSotos were the most beautiful DeSotos ever made. I really like the four door hardtops in this bodystyle, almost as much as the coupe.
It is funny it’s in a Ford Museum.

"Explore the world's premier auto exhibit showcasing an unparalleled collection of historically significant vehicles."

The Desoto even shows up in the promo video. As does the Turbine car.

I am a bit surprised that it looks to have an air-cooled Torqueflite. I would love to know the PN of the trans. A lot of the interior chrome will clean up real good with Quick Glo and the like. Rockers have bondo but I don't think the rest is too bad.

I thought all 57’s were air cooled torqueflites. I was under the impression that water cooled came in 58.

I believe some 1957 models like the New Yorkers and Imperials got the “liquid cooled” trans with the line running to the radiator.

I think that is true. Furthermore, I believe that the bigger Chryslers and Imperials in 1955 and 1956 with Powerflites also had liquid cooling, i.e. the transmission oil was pumped through a liquid to liquid heat exchanger (external to the radiator). By 1957 the cooling was part of the radiator for those with liquid cooling (probably Torqueflites).

The A-466 Torqueflite that I put into my 56 Dodge early this year came from a 57 Windsor and it was air-cooled. I have seen a very similar A-466 Torqueflite in a 57 Dodge (one of John S.'s 57 D500s) and it was also aircooled.

This car is a 57 torqueflite and is air cooled also a dual headlight version. (Possibly a later version) I own a 57 Fireflite with an air cooled torqueflite and I bought a donor 57 torqueflite that was air cooled. I can believe the higher end Chrysler torqueflites were cooled by heat exchanging with the radiator but that only seemed to happen for Desoto in 58. My 57 owners manual doesn’t even mention anything but air cooled torqueflites. I’m not claiming to know all just trying to provoke a discussion to further educate me on 57 Desoto. Maybe Ed Petrus can chime in or some other expert.

I am NOT an expert but I have some experience and data. The air cooled 57 Windsor TF I put in my 56 Dodge was PN 1736544. One of John S's 57 D500s is running a 1736 546 which I think is air-cooled. I am willing to bet that this 57 Desoto also has a 1736 546 air-cooled.

Photos starting with mine, followed by the listing for the 1736 546 (that I think superceded the 1736 544) and then the stamping on the side of John S's TF:

I have owned seven 1957 Desotos, including four Adventurers, since 1979. Every one of them had air cooled transmissions.

As far as I know, all 1957 DeSotos had air-cooled transmissions. I don't know anything about Other makes.

I can confirm that all my '57 New Yorkers came with water cooled, and all my '57 Windsors came with air cooled.
