My firedome 58 had to much internal leakage at left turns only. Almost no support power and hissing. The cylinder bore was scored and worn and require a sleeve to work properly.
Has anybody done this? The machining wouldn`t be too hard but the centering is not easy..regardless of whether it is done by metal turning or with a mill.
My old steering box was a 1733596 and the replacing one a 1822734. I was in a hurry so I didn`t notice that the steering column support collar was different sized on the boxes.
1733596 has 63,5 mm diameter and 1822734 has 57,5 mm diameter.I made a spacer of a plastic tube and that works well. I had to shorten the spring pin to be able to turn the steering axle
inside the smaller collar.
This I had to learn the hard way of course.

Did you try getting in touch with Fin_ish Floyd? He does power steering upgrades and may be able to help you out.
