Location: Chattanooga | Are all 1959 Chrysler firewalls the same, or is there a difference between cars with air conditioning and cars without air conditioning? |

Location: California | I believe the firewalls on cars with factory air conditioning are stamped differently. There was a discussion about someone wanting to add factory air to a car that didn’t come with it here and this subject came up. |

Location: So. Cal | The A/C cars use the removable vent mount style. This type of firewall was used in many other cars that didn't come with A/C as well so if you happen to have it, you could install an original A/C setup in your car. The '57 New Yorker that I parted out had this firewall type in it so I have it available if anyone wants it. Aftermarket systems, of course don't require this. |

Location: California | Did many cars have this type firewall? Based on what I had heard and read here in the past I was under the impression you couldn’t install ac on a non ac car without hacking up the firewall. This would be good news for those wishing to install a factory ac setup,if the firewall is the type you’re mentioning. |

Location: California | “Powerflite”, have you ever had a 57-58 with working factory A/C? I’ve always been curious to know how well the system worked? Did it cool the interior very well? |

Location: So. Cal | Yes, many did, but many did not too. I think it was Chrysler's way of mitigating the cost of having a different body stamping, just for the small number of A/C cars. Use them on a bunch of cars and the cost of making them goes way down. |

Location: California | Any chance you might have a photo of the ac style with removable vent mount and the non ac style for identification purposes? |

Location: So. Cal | Just do a search on the site and you will find discussions about it. Here is one. http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=66044
The first gray picture is non-A/C, and the second black picture is A/C. On the second one, you can see the screws around the vent flap that can remove it out in case of A/C.

Location: California | Thanks for the link “Powerflite”,and again for sharing your knowledge.
It interesting to see the differences you’ve found between the two in the cowl drains and drip guards too. |
