We've probably all had a look at the allpar info on the XI-2200 inverted V-16 hemi-head airplane engine that Chrysler developed during WWII.

This:

Today, while going through a stack of old Mopar magazines that a friend had given me, I found this article in the Nov. 98 issue of Chrysler Power, written by Fred Jennings who was an Engineer in Chrysler's Engine Division from 1937 to 1948:

Chrysler Corporation had never produced a model XI-2200 experimental Hemi engine during WWII. However, Chrysler had produced an experimental model XI-2220 inverted V-16 Hemi engine in 1944 (2220 cubic inch engine) and also an experimental model XIV-2220 improved version in 1945.

I have also attached the cover page of the November 1998 Chrysler Power magazine, which you had already uploaded the pages of Chrysler's automotive engineer Fred Jennings and his written article on Chrysler's First Hemi engine.

Sorry. I am not sure what your point is. If it is I made a typo entering the engine size as 2200 instead of 2220, duly noted. Thanks. My bad. Unfortunately, I can't go back and edit my post now. (There is a time limit for edits on this forum).

Your other points are covered in the article. The later version made something like 3500 hp (well over the original objective of 2500 hp).

The reason that I posted was mostly because of the cross-section of valve mechanism.
