Veteran Posts: 144 Location: Bournemouth, UK | Which adhesive should I use to glue new seals to the door frames? I am afraid that some adhesives may damage the paint on the metal. I have read good opinions on 3m and permatex weatherstrip adhesive, but I think they are not available here in UK.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 397 Location: McHenry Illinois | Hi Pierpaolo, Yes, 3M weatherstrip adhesive (black in color) and 3M super weatherstrip adhesive (yellow in color) are both excellent products. I use them exclusively to install new and resecure weatherstrips. I'm sure you can order some from the states online. Hope his helps. Dave W.

Location: Bjorneborg, Finland | It's strange thing, that nobody sell good weatherstrip adhesive in Europe and one guy in the States had to buy me 3M black weatherstrip adhesive and sent it here.. It's super product, although not super weatherstrip adhesive.. Edited by spinout 2005-09-26 3:30 PM

Expert Posts: 2011 Location: Ballwin, Missouri | I've found the yellow 3M adhesive is the best for weatherstrips. If you put it on both the body and the weatherstrip and spread it out so you have a thin coating, then let it dry to the touch before you place the weatherstrip, only a minute or two. Be very careful positioning the weatherstip because when the two surfaces touch they are stuck. If done properly, after the adhesive sets up for an hour or two, if you try to remove it again you will probably tear the weatherstip. It really sticks. The secret is not to use to much. A little goes a long way. It's sold in a tube or a spray can. I even use the spray can version to hold gaskets in place for me when I am assembling an engine.

Veteran Posts: 144 Location: Bournemouth, UK | I have checked online sellers and ebay, but they all charge 25-30 bucks to ship a 5oz tube to UK......... I was wondering which kind of formulations generally available from DIY stores can I use and which ones should I avoid to avoid the risk of damaging the paint.

Member Posts: 39 Location: North Carolina | I just did the doors on my truck this past weekend using the 3M yellow adhesive. No problem with the paint, but clean-up is a bit of a pain. It's used on both surfaces. The weatherstrip is not a problem, it just goes on the side meant for adhesive. The door adhesive must be carefully applied - I used a small foam brush - so that only the mating surface gets adhesive. Any overflow forms a rather hard yellow mess. I carefully cleaned up with a razor and touched up with paint. Bob

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5116 | Bump the old thread up... this E6000 stuff IS amazing... just put a bead down and wait a while... holds much stronger than rubber cement and its clear, I put a small bead down the center. and it was way stronger then a full double blob of rubber cement(double apply, and wait). Single application... https://eclecticproducts.com/
