Today I'm selling this very good original front windshield gasket. This is for the W451 windshield: 1957 Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto, Chrysler 2dr HT and 4dr HT. Also, 1958 Plymouth 2dr HT and 4dr HT.
The rubber is soft and pliable, as you can see in the photos. These are very hard to find in this condition. The available reproduction gaskets are two piece and lack the moulded corners. Part no. 1775040. $450 or best offer + shipping. Message me if interested.

Thanks,

Ron

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask,but I was wondering why they reproduce these in two pieces rather than making it the correct way the factory did? Given the popularity of 57-58’s you would think someone would step up to the plate and make a correct repro. There can’t be too many good, pliable used seals left out there.

It's a multi-step process to make the correct gaskets. Steele reproduces the 55-6 windshield and back glass gaskets. But they were less than interested in doing the 57-9 W451 or W453 gaskets, even though I offered one of mine for them to make a W451 mould. Since the Swedes do a first class job on all their repro parts, maybe they can take on this project as well ?

I’m honestly surprised they’d have interest in the 55-56 gaskets, but have little interest in reproducing seals for the 57-61 cars..especially with you offering them a good original one to make a mould for the 57-58 Plymouths. Maybe I’m wrong, but I would think there would be more interest in the 57–59 seals than the 55-56 ones. The reason the Swedes usually do such a good job on their repro parts is because they are passionate about these cars, and willing to invest the time, care and effort into reproducing parts that are needed and not available for elsewhere so these cars can be restored. It’s not solely about making a buck. I think Steele was foolish not to take you up on your offer and make a mould. As popular as the 57-58 Plymouth’s are they would have sold a lot of them.

I think they see the lousy sales for the '55-'56 parts and infer that they would get the same results with the later ones. Someone needs to talk with them and set them straight.

It seemed that their philosophy used to be different. If you had it, then they would try to make it. Somewhere along the line, they decided to go in a different direction.

Another thought is that maybe the cost of the 55-6 moulds were underwritten by someone with $$$.

Some east coast guys have a good amount of gaskets. Don't need to repop those I guess
