Expert Posts: 2309 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | I've seen this car or one like it at the Good Guys Show in Columbus, OH a couple of years ago.An impressive build when you see it in the flesh, but the heavy chromework of the massive 1959 Imperial bumper and headlights looks out of place on a car that has been drastically shortened from stock configuration like this. Personally I woud have considered usong a smaller bumper' maybe from a 1959 Chrysler and removing all the extra chrome doo-dads from the fenders that aren't really necessary for a cleaner look. Member Posts: 40 Location: California | Thanks 56D500boy for downloading the link for the Hagerty Media News article that was written on the 1959 Imperial Speedster and was written by longtime and renowed automotive journalist Don Sherman, who also writes for Car and Driver and Motor Trend magazines. And in 2019, he also won the prestigious Automotive Heritage Awards for Lifetime Achivement in Journalism. I read the entire article and in my opinion, I thought that Murray Pfaff's award winning 1959 Imperial Speedster concept car was absolutely "Stunning." Even the legendary automotive designer Virgil Exner Jr. said, “I know my father would have loved the Imperial Speedster. Murray Pfaff’s creation is beautiful, well-thought out, and very nicely presented.”

Expert Posts: 1207 Location: Ponder, TX | Guess I have to be the lone dissenting opinion. Just as I admire many radical customs...like the Sniper '54 Plymouth...I love it! I do agree that it would probably look better with a few more inches of wheelbase, but it's certainly memorable as is. There are many critics who think all Imperials are ugly, but I'm as forgiving of Imperial's stock gaudiness as I am of this custom. Yes, I'm a Mopar apologist and have to be when praising a few of their extreme styling efforts. | ||

Extreme Veteran Posts: 407 Location: Hilltown, PA | Eh . . . Here's my thinking. If you're going to build a "Could have been" you need to do it pretty close to how it "Would have been". Yes, taking advantage of modern techniques, materials, and sometimes components can work, but you have to stay true to the style and sometimes technically driven appearance of the original vehicles. The wheels on this car are completely inappropriate. And had Chrysler built a roadster it certainly would have been that few inches longer we all seem to agree it needs to look balanced. On the other hand, if you are trying to do a "modern interpretation" then do that all the way - trim the overly heavy bumper lines and excessive chrome. Good aesthetic design is like a good tool - most can only do one thing well. Gregg | ||

It would have been better to use a 2dr car and use a 4dr size door on it. Either that, or even better, cut some from the door and some from the panel. Cut like around 10". That would make it look shorter, yet not ridiculously short. Then you can cut more off the back end & front end as well if you like, to balance it out. Do everything digitally first before you start cutting to make sure you like what you are planning to create. But cutting out an entire door length from the wheelbase makes it look ridiculous. | ||

This thing is probably put together well, but it is still a turd, a perfectly build turd. I'd prefer a poorly assembled full size FL car, in any shape. This thing is totally out of proportion and driving it makes you look like a clown to boot. | ||
