I am considering converting my 56 Windsor from a generator to an alternator. I found an alternator bracket that attaches to the generator mount. The power steering pump is mounted on the back of the generator. I'm not sure what to do about relocating the pump. Has anyone done this?

You can get a power steering pump from a '57-'58 392 hemi to work on it. Or you can get a newer pump from a rack & pinon setup and make custom brackets. I say rack & pinion because you need to use a low pressure pump. Look up the pressure output of your original and match it to the new one. You don't want to use too much pressure or you will be blowing all your seals or causing other issues. You can get an alternator that looks like a generator too or get your original generator with its pump connection converted into an alternator. That way it would look completely stock, if you want that.

Nathan: I wish that were true. So far I have not found anyone who can do that one. I know that it could be done but so far I have NOT found anybody who has done or would to it.

If you know who has done that, please let me (us) know. I want the OE look but I am not in love with my generator/PS driver.

I have seen this but it is not an alternator in a generator shell which would be what I want.

A company called Powermaster Motorsports makes replacement alternators that look like the old style generators.

Of course there’s several different options available for Chevy, but there’s one specifically for Mopars.

Here’s a link to the one for Mopar engines on Speedway motors site

There's also this conversion, but prices accordingly for the work involved: https://www.gener-nator.com

BUT:

"Generators with power steering pump or tach drive attached to the rear end cannot be converted to a Gener-Nator."

Ah, right there on the Applications page, I never noticed that, I apologize. Interesting. "However they can be upgraded"(?)
