1957 Dodge Sierra 325cuin., TorqueFlite transmission.
Looking for a manual shaft seal and all the ones I can find say they are for a PowerFlite.
Do both transmissions use the same seal?

Thanks.

The Torqueflite Manual/Kick-down shaft seal is PN 1732183 (the equivalent Powerflite shaft seal is 1408353). So I would have thought that they are different (I.D.? O.D.?). However, MoparMall sells a seal that they say replaces both of those, i.e. they are the "same".

https://www.moparmall.com/product-p/kc-81204.htm

I previously investigated the Powerflite seal and found that the one on my Powerflite was labeled 50018. When I used the SKF parts search, a 50018 comes up as a National Mfg. Part Number: 50018 with a cross to a 6925 from National, Federal Mogul and Caterpillar.

Not expensive so worth a try.

I had seen that Moparmall one saying the seal fit both transmissions but that was the only place that showed one seal for both transmissions.
Several places list for the PowerFlite but say nothing for the TorqueFlite.

Thanks for the numbers.

Not 100% true. This website (already posted above) gives a seal for the Torqueflite 1732 183 but doesn't mention the Powerflite 1408 353:

How do you release the gear shift cable from inside the transmission on the 1957 TorqueFlite?
The manual says remove the plug and release the control cable spring lock. The only picture it shows is a screwdriver in the hole.
Looking in the hole I see what looks like a small coil spring that is wrapped around the cable at or near what appears the cable end.
Pushing the spring every which way I can does not release the cable.
What am I missing Here?

Thanks.

I found some better pictures of the spring and cable and understand better what I'm supposed to do. (I hope)
I'll try it tomorrow when I get time. Good thing the replacement transmission is on a tear-down cart so I can see better how to remove it before I have to remove the transmission I'm replacing.

There appears to be some good pictures here.

You are very close. You need to push on that little bit of spring wire that is sticking straight up. Pushing it will move the spring wire out of the groove in the nose of the Torqueflite cable and release the cable.

Sure is easy to do when you understand what you're looking at through that small hole when you remove the plug.

Would have been easier if the link to the photo that I wanted to show you had worked after I posted it.

Here is what I tried to post:
