Greetings,

Once again turning to the mass expertise on here, have to replace the kingpins on my 56 Firedome Wagon. I see sets sold on Ebay etc, is there a different set for the wagons vs the sedans?

Thanks

I've investigated king pins before while searching for the correct set for my 56 Dodge D500 equipped with 56 Chrysler Sedan 12" x 2.5" brakes. What I found out that there were two versions, one for cars with Power Steering and one without. The PS cars get two bushings per side. The non-PS cars get a bushing and a needle bearing per side, presumably to make turning easier.

I've also investigated 56 D500 wheels and learned that the "racing" D500's used components from the senior cars, specifically, the Desoto and Chrysler Estate Wagons and/or Imperials. The understanding was that everything (hubs, uprights, king pin diameters/lengths, etc) was/were much more heavy duty for the Estate Wagons (and Imperials) because of their load capacity(estate wagons) and/or weight (Imperials).

Bottomline: Yes there is a difference between sedans and wagons. I think that you will need the 1653 444 set (see parts catalogue listing below):
