that's an Oldsmobile Rocket V8 from the 1960's! I bet that car would fly!

Wait a minute, the last pic isn't the DeSoto.

Well it is an Adventurer with a 383 originally that would "out-fly" about anything back then and that pic isn't the Desoto (fortunately). Who would exchange one of the best engine in automobile history (the low deck Mopar BB) with an Oldsmobile engine?

1960 Fury, yes the 383 in the DeSoto is fast but a '66 Olds Toronado 425 cu.in Rocket would leave the Adventurer in it's dust.

Not really, the low deck B is the prime Mopar engine that pros use for high hp build with a perfect bore/stroke ratio and little rod angle, about in the 327 Chevy class, which is considered the best GM engine.
Perfect for LASTING high rpm/HP builds. With N.A. 700+ HP and if that isn't enough you can add Hemi heads. The rugged Y block is good for 1000+ HP. In my opinion it is the best "vintage" American V8.

You know your LB's Sid. I've had a number of them over the past fifty odd years and have always been very pleased with their performance. Currently I have a Canadian built '61 Saratoga with the AFB and duals that it came with and am still impressed with the performance. It has just under 60,000 miles, never been touched, and when I go over the mountains north from where I am, I am always smirking about the way this 383 pulls up steep grades. It climbs like a homesick angel. Needless to say, when I'm challenged by anyone, I can always rely on it to make them raise their eyebrows, fabulous 'vintage ' engine.....

Yes, these engines are GREAT. I wouldn't switch my 383 for ANY motor. They rev like 1 liter twin cam inlines. My 340+K miles 383 (heads never been off since August 18 1959, when it as build) still goes easily to 150 mph. I have 0-60 mph vids on YT. It still runs like new after 61 years!
I smoked a 64 Galaxy coupe with a freshly rebuild (unlike mine with no visible blowby) HP 428 easily a couple of years ago. Use to own a 61 Desoto coupe and even the low compression 361 went to a clocked 133mp (with some mild modifications).

The absolute best about these engines is their dependabilty and they are very easy to work on too. My 383 never caused any troubles whatsoever (since 1988, when I bought it). I love these engines. Bought a couple of very high mileage LB cars later, all without any problems till today.
