This New Yorker wagon has been posted for sale on the BAT.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1961-chrysler-new-yorker-station-w...

This 1961 Chrysler New Yorker station wagon is a nine-passenger example powered by a 413ci Golden Lion V8 paired with a push-button Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission. The car was purchased by the seller approximately 12 years ago out of Ohio, where it reportedly had been sitting for two decades. The seller subsequently refurbished the vehicle over the next eleven years with work that included repairing and refinishing the body, redoing the interior, rebuilding the drivetrain and associated components, installing front disc brakes, and replacing the front subframe. This New Yorker is now offered with assorted spare parts, a workshop manual, 1960 and 1961 Chrysler brochures, service records from current ownership, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Chrysler built 1,436 New Yorker station wagons for 1961, of which 760 were nine-passenger examples. The styling was a continuation of Virgil Exner’s “Forward Look” design language, and exterior features include quadruple headlamps, upswept tail fins with integrated taillights, chrome trim, and chrome-and-gold accents behind the rear wheel openings. The body of this car reportedly had rust repairs carried out under current ownership, with deteriorated portions replaced with new metal, and it was later repainted in Formal Black (B). Most of the chrome and stainless trim was replated or polished. Close-up photos showing various imperfections are provided in the gallery below.

Black-painted steel wheels feature Chrysler New Yorker covers and are fitted with American Classic whitewall tires. The car is equipped with power-assisted steering and brakes. Front disc brakes and a replacement front subframe were installed during the refurbishment.

Red vinyl upholstery (845) is paired with a matching padded dashboard and door panels over black carpeting. Amenities include air conditioning with front and rear vent controls, as well as lap belts, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, power windows, a power-adjustable front bench seat, and a Golden Touch AM radio. The seller notes that the radio and power antenna are nonfunctional.

A two-tone factory steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer displays 48k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added by the seller.

This nine-passenger wagon features a fold-down rear-facing third-row bench seat. Images of corrosion in the rear footwell are provided in the gallery, which also shows the second row folded.

The 413ci Golden Lion V8 is equipped with a single four-barrel carburetor and produced 350 horsepower when new. The seller states that the engine, carburetor, radiator, and transmission were rebuilt during the refurbishment.

Power is routed to the rear wheels via a push-button three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Additional photos of the underbody are provided in the gallery below. In-car driving footage is presented below.

It could use a lot more detailing to bring it up to a nicer standard. Whoever reupholstered the seats used the correct vinyl but got them wrong. The basket-weave vinyl sections should be pleated, not flat, other than the driver's section which was not pleated. The picture below is an all original wagon interior. Compare it to the red interior on the one for sale.

I would like to see what rust repairs were done to the car. It's already bid up to a high price. The missing tailgate trim is hard to find. I need the 1960 Chrysler emblem on the tailgate if it's a true wagon version.

The backup lights on this wagon are not correct. Not sure what they're from. '60 and '61 used the same ones.

What is missing? (I can see the holes but don't know what should be there)

1960 and 61 were different, although the lower trim may be the same. But they had a line of trim along the bottom of the tailgate. Personally, I think it looks better without it.
Notice also that the Chrysler emblem is different for 1961. It is blocked and centered on the tailgate. The wagon in this thread is using the 1960 version instead.

The lower three moldings are the same as on the 1960. The upper 3 moldings and the aluminum fillers are 1961 only. They may have used a '60 tailgate but put the '61 lock bezel on it. The '60 lock bezel is one-year only and you'll notice the terra cotta wagon has the wrong one. The later one is easier to find since it fit's all the '61-64 full size wagons with power window.

1960 "Chrysler" emblem is the same external shape as on non-wagon 1960s but the pin on the C is in a different place. The tail on mine is broken off. I have a non-wagon one that I may have to move the pin on to use it.

Forgot the most important thing – decoding the data plate:

B4 = 294 = Power Windows (the data plate has no info about power seat 293, as an power antenna 324 as well)
N2 = 312 = DUAL Air Conditioning and Heater (N1 – Single A/C with Heater, N5 – Heater only)
T3 = 423 = Radio Golden Touch Tuner LESS Rear Seat Speaker (T2 – Golden Tone)
V1 = 441 = Solex Tinted Glass at all Window Areas
Y8 = 588 = Undercoating and Underhood Pad

That's the correct window switch bezel for 1961-64.

Checking the "bringatrailer" link for this 61 wagon it shows that the auction just ended yesterday, Monday Dec 21, 2020.

Closed with a high bid of $55,000 and states Reserve NOT met.

Of course without actually inspecting the wagon in person can only go on the pictures included in the ad. However, that seems to be strong $$$ for the overall condition.
