Dave: I presume that you are converting to manual transmission or a floor shift system (not sure why). In any event, there wasn't a factory block off plate because if the car wasn't an automatic, it would be a standard (three on the tree) and they would not have installed a automatic shifter bezel on the dash. You are going to have to make one. If I was in your situation a) I would not put a floor shift into place for an automatic and/or b) if I did really want to delete the shifter buttons, I would make a block off plate. I would start with a cardboard template (typically using a cereal box) and play with that, getting everything right. Then I would make a second generation plate out of 1/8" Masonite. Once I got that sorted, I would transfer the information (shape, need for holes, etc) to a sheet of 1/8" thick aluminum and then cut the plate out of the aluminum, filing, sanding, grinding the edges until they were perfect. After drilling the attachment holes, I would then either cover the plate with an appropriate vinyl, or paint it similar to the dash or I would just polish the plate to a "chrome"-like shine. The location wouldn't be a terrible place for an extra 2" gauge or a 2" tach or the like. Member Posts: 19 Location: Edmonton Alberta | My car was an auto originally. Will now be a floor shifted 5 speed. All the push button stuff is coming out. Has to be a 3 on tree parts car somewhere out there. Not alot of people will like what I'm doing but I saved the car from being cut into a couch and brought it back on the road 7 years ago with a fresh 413 , trans and disc brake swap. Wanted something different and Now it's got a 91 6bt cummins and 5 speed trans . My plan with the 3 speed block off plate was to ad a vintage period correct pyrometer.

That will probably be a good idea for a diesel but again, there won't be a factory 3 spd block off plate. You'll have to make one.

I don’t have one now but there should be lots of them out there! Just the same as radio delete and clock delete plates. Greg

After considerable effort, I found the PNs for the 1957-58 FACE PLATE, Instrument Panel Gear Selectors in section 23-33-220 of the 55-58 Mopar Parts catalog as: 1698 251 = 57-58 Dodges w/Std. Trans. 1698 250 = 57-58 Dodges w/Powerflite 1698 249 = 57-58 Dodges w/Auto. 3 Speed Trans. (Torqueflite 5 button) Search eBay comes up with none of those. And none on Grease Monkey garage, Hiltop Mopar or Len Dawson's Mopar So good luck. Try John at Big M auto wreckers or French Lake Auto wreckers or Wildcat Mopars Edited by 56D500boy 2021-01-25 12:44 PM

I would still think that that is a natural place for a 52 mm gauge (or tach) of some kind. And now you have an OE - looking plate to mount one on.
