I have some guesses about 1958 Dodge Custom Royal Sedan trim:
Is that really beige and tan on the Pic. No. 1 (code 262)
And a gray and beige on the Pic. No. 2 (code 263) or it has code 264 (because gray)

In Lancer Mikes 58 Dodge info spreadsheet, a trim code that ends in 4 seems to be "red and black"

as in:

272 = Custom Tan and Brown
173 = Royal lancer coupe Black and White
277 = Regal Bronze and Black
123 = Coronet black and white
225 = Custom Royal Lancer Coupe Red and Black
141 = Coronet deluxe green
121 = Coronet green
144 = Coronet deluxe sedan red and black
273 = Custom black and white convt
275 = Custom Red and Black convt
115 = Coronet red and black
120 = Coronet blue and whte
115 = Coronet
262 = Custom Royal Sedan Beige and Brown
171 = Royal lancer coupe green and white
269 = Custom Royal Sedan black and white
122 = Coronet deluxe beige convt
274 = Custom Royal Coupe Red and Black

That's true but the facts say otherwise
The last 5 in the trim code 275 says red vinyl and black cloth

M3 = 5 = Appearance Deluxe Accessory Group
M4 = 3 = Spring Special Package
M5 = 1 = Left Outside Rear View Mirror

The codes 274 and 275 cannot be both red and black...

We need Mike in here. He has a

275 = Custom Red and Black convt

and a

274 = Custom Royal Coupe Red and Black

Your photo looks Spring Special to me (??) and your M4 3 = spring special (??) so that might be the answer too.

And don't forget that LA codes might be different than Detroit codes. Might. Maybe.

Code 275 is red and black. 2 different reds were used during the year. Regular red earlier, then Poppy Red (Spring/Summer) color, but both used code 275. Detroit same as LA car above.

Here some my guessing about 1958 Dodge LA-cowl tag:

M3 = 5 = Appearance Deluxe Accessory Group
M4 = 3 = Spring Special Package
M5 = 1 = Left Outside Rear View Mirror

To figure these out, you need to look at cars with very little options because it narrows it down more.
My '58 Coronet poly V8 only has M5=1 on the body tag.
It doesn't have solex glass either. But it does have:

Torqueflite
Power steering

Deluxe Appearance Accessory Group:
Plastic Steering Wheel
Electric Clock
Rear Quarter Stone Shields
Deluxe Spinner Wheel Covers - (no, it only had standard wheel covers, maybe they were replaced?)

Radio Accessory Group:
Backup Lights
Heater and Defroster
Left Outside Rear View Mirror
Inside Prismatic Mirror
Radio Music Master

So, M5=1 must either stand for: Radio Accessory Group, Deluxe Appearance Group, Torqueflite, or Power Steering. And, since my car has the Deluxe appearance group, but doesn't have M3=5, that can't be what that stands for either. Also, the TR 141 on the tag already denotes that the car gets the Deluxe Appearance Group, which, I believe includes the custom interior trim as well. So it makes sense that they wouldn't include that a second time on the tag.

I’m not sure on that one. Looking at the Ross Roy book, it’s definitely possible.

This is great stuff!  TRM codes have always been a bit mysterious to me.  I was trying to crack them from some observed interiors along with cowl tags, but this list looks to be much more comprehensive.

Hello Nathan!
I do not dispute anything and do not claim – I just assume...
From the photos of this car, I saw some options that may be (they are there, you can see it in the photo). I appreciate what you said: maybe I was wrong. Thank you for sharing information about the equipment of your car – this can help in the future with the decoding of Los Angeles cars.

The code M5=1 on your car means left exterior mirror. This was stated by D500Neil. I believe that his authoritative opinion is listened to on this site…

Cannot find this tread but he has told the next:

That's an L.A. built car, there. It does not show, however, the typical back-less mounting screws on its P/T plate, but, rather the Phillips-head mounting screws that were used on the Detroit-built cars. Yours is one of the few L.A.-built cars, that I've seen, that does not have the back-less mounting screws on the P/T plate. The P/T plate does show the typical shadow-image of the strip of masking tape that was laid across the P/T plate, when the car body was painted. The L.A. cars have very little optional equipment listed on the P/T's, but yours confirms the LT outside mirror option (big deal). Its Broadcast Sheet and/or IBM Build Cards will confirm the rest of your cars options and OEM equipment data. It was Scheduled to have been built o.o.a. 11/7/57, which is of relatively early build.

Here some pictures about describing car:

I respect Neil very much but I disagree with this M5 code explanation. This code always = 1. Also for cars without a mirror.

Thanks Igor. Neil was often right, but not always. I know that he didn't have a good grasp on the LA tags, as he admitted. Assuming that Neil was wrong, some things we can say for sure:

This car has power brakes, and mine doesn't, yet it isn't listed any differently on the tag. So the power brake option wasn't included on the tag.
This car doesn't **appear** to have the radio accessory group, yet does have the left rear view mirror. So M5=1 might indicate the mirror option.
This car doesn't have the deluxe appearance group, and mine does, yet the tag is the same M5=1. So the deluxe appearance group isn't listed on the tag.
This car has a torqueflite, and mine does too, so that is a possible meaning for M5=1.
This car has power steering and mine does too, so that is a possible meaning for M5=1.
This car has a heater/defroster and mine does too, so that is a possible meaning for M5=1.

Here some my guessing about 1958 Dodge LA-cowl tag:

M3 = 5 = Appearance Deluxe Accessory Group
M4 = 3 = Spring Special Package
M5 = 1 = Left Outside Rear View Mirror

The upholstery topic is probably not a good place for this discussion, but...

In my opinion Acc.Group is not shown on the tag.
First, Apperance has code 4 (314)
Secondly, this car has the Apperance group and the M3 code is blank.

Robert: looks like to be true – this is not an appearance group…
So what could it be?
Here spreadsheet of ’58 Dodge optional codes that ends on the «5»:

THE ITEMS THAT ARE NOT ON THIS CAR:

Power Tail Gate Window
Deluxe Appearance Accessory Group
Blue Convertible Top Color
V8 361CID EFI 333HP Power Plant
Solex Tinted Glass – Windshield Only: it has tinted glass at all windows
Export Right Hand Drive
Front and Rear Heavy Duty Springs = DO NOT KNOW; UNLIKELY

THE ITEMS THAT COULD BE ON THIS CAR:

Heater and Defroster
Front Bumper Guard
Map Light
Car Service
Delivery Route – by Truck

Maybe M3 = 5 = 355 = Front Bumper Guards (teeth)
They were not as standard equipment…

M5 code always = 1. This is the only code with the same number for all 1957-59 brands. (1956 is different ).
Many cars have it, it has to be something cheap or desirable.
Sometimes the only selected option is the M5.

This is not a torquflite. Then there would be two codes. The first is for powerflite, the second is for torqueflite. Or three codes - the third code for the three in the tree.

It's not a mirror - M5 = 1 also have cars without mirrors.

So, power steering or heater. Or undercoating maybe.
