The trans push button have counter sunk in the shifter plate face, making them harder to pop out at times. Is there an adjustment to bring them out further so they dont hang up? Thanks (59 Desoto)

While others formulate their responses, I will suggest that the answer is "NO, there is no adjustment".

What I think might have happened is the buttons have worn out where they contact the metal shifter plates. In my mind, the solution will be to add some epoxy in that area of shifter plate end of the button and then file the epoxy as needed.

At least that is the way I would try to solve the problem. The plates are the plates and they can't be adjusted.

I agree with starting with lubrication as the potential solution. If the plates and springs stick, they buttons won't pop out properly.

As Dave said, to my thinking, the only way the button can recess below the faceplate is if the button's plastic/metal intersection becomes deformed over the years and allows the button to seat deeper on the metal prong. Only fix would be to replace the button or, somehow, build up the plastic to original dimensions.

Or if the nuts holding the shifter mechanism to the dash are way loose, the mechanism could move away.

I've seen cases where the plastic obviously had became mushy and someone tried to bend the prongs to get a better grip. This is the wrong method as the prongs are hardened and it's actually easy to break one off.
