MODEL 68 = Crown Imperial Limousine, 8P (67 = 4door Sedan, 8P) PAINT 01 = Raven Black TRIM 48 = Broadcloth and Black Leather for Driver’s Compartment SCHED 018 = Scheduled on November 8, 1955 approximately (Production began on October 21, 1955) ITEM 201 = First Crown Imperial built that day A5 = Power Antenna G1 = Solex Glass – All Windows M5 = Air Conditioning S4 = Powerflite 2 Speed Automatic Transmission and Power Steering All other equipment (Heater, Music Master Radio with Rear Speaker, PS, PB, PW, Power Seat, WSW Tires) were standard and did not stamp on the cowl tag. Since January 31, 1956 almost all Imperials were equipped with Torqueflite Transmission (it would be code S6 on the cowl tag), but you are have a very early production car equipped with Powerflite Transmission (code S4 on the tag). | Here are some pics of the rear seat. I can't get the driver door open yet so I don't know the VIN. I am going to work on it some more this weekend. I would love to get the VIN so I can learn the history of the car. C56*1028 Sorry to break this to you but all that tells us is the car is a 1956 Imperial. It doesn't even tell us whether it is a 149.5" wheelbase Crown Imperial or a normal 133" wheel base Imperial. I know you know it is a Crown Imperial but the VIN does say that directly. The data plate probably does. That and a tape measure and the jump seats. When I get some time to resize some pictures I will post the car. I just needed the VIN to try and trace some history on it hopefully. I don't doubt for a second that your Imperial is a Crown limo. It's just that the VIN doesn't tell you that. When the Covid thing passes, you should be able to contact Fiat Chrysler Historical with proof of your ownership and the VIN. With that, they used to reply with an image of the IBM card for your car. From that, it will be possible to figure out what options the car was built with and where it was delivered. There won't be any more info from them so you might have to pull in other resources to get more info/history.
