Extreme Veteran Posts: 339 Location: Wisconsin | I don't believe there is any sort of registry specifically for cars owned by members of this site. There are, however various registries out there in existence. The National DeSoto Club maintains registries for several years, including '56-'61 of the Forward Look years. The Chrysler 300 Club International also maintains registries for each year letter car 300. There is a guy in Sweden that was tracking all known DeSotos over there as well. There may be other people or clubs that maintain other registries I am not aware of, but those are a few.

Expert Posts: 1488 Location: New Castle PA | What they said, to my knowledge, is correct. For the 1957 DeSotos, I've been keeping track as best that I can of every one that has shown up all over the world since about 1977. Some people don't want information shared, like their address or contact information, and some don't want to share information (like a car's VIN, for example). Thus, the registry isn't "complete" but is pretty good. I try to keep important things private, but having such a list has at many times been VERY valuable. The most common usage is to share the history of a car with the current owner. Long story short, if there IS a registry for your collector car, I highly recommend that you become part of it!

Extreme Veteran Posts: 339 Location: Wisconsin | Ed - very well stated on how important these lists are and the kind of service we can provide to owners because of it! I can also say from personal experience that it has helped in the decoding process as well since more data points is always helpful. It also allows us to see build patterns, such as runs of pace cars or Adventurers or other such notable patterns. With the '59 registry, Alan and Bob were able to confirm the existence of Adventurer #699, which confirmed Chrysler's report that there were 602 Adventurer hardtops and 97 Adventurer convertibles, for a total of 699. This is contrary to the commonly published figure of 590 hardtops, which I believe originated with the what was published many years ago in "The Plymouth and DeSoto Story" by Don Butler. That book is usually very reliable, but in this case it has been proven that is an incorrect figure. I maintain the '56 and '58 DeSoto registries. The '56 registry goes back to the late '70's or early '80's. The '58 registry is under 10 years old, so it's not quite as developed yet. The '60 registry is maintained by a club member in Minnesota and the '61 registry is maintained by my friend Dean in South Carolina. Dean is still trying to find the last DeSoto built, which was a 2 door. Turquoise with a white top if I recall correctly.

If anyone wants to inquire about their DeSoto's ownership history, get their car registered or have it decoded, the NDC website lists the contact info for the person responsible for each year. Below is the '56 page with my contact, but you can easily navigate to other years under the "DeSoto Information" tab at the top. https://desoto.org/1956-2/

Elite Veteran Posts: 1153 Location: D-70199 Heslach | I'm glad that I have a 57 desoto, of all things, because Ed was able to help a lot with his registry. But I would be interested to know which guy in Sweden that David mentioned above is meant. Did you mean the list of Roger http://hasselsvensson.se/mopar5561.htm which list all forwardlookers of sweden,- but sweden only. There is also a registry for 58 Chrysler station wagons, which is maintained by Bob (Rebel). So there are certainly a lot of "private" lists that lie dormant with the respective owners

Expert Posts: 4034 Location: Connecticut | I maintain a registry of 1959 Dodge convertibles. This is a project that started in the early 90s when I purchased mine. I now have 49 entries and keep track of sales as these cars move from one owner to the next. I respect peoples' privacy and will not publish the information publicly. Anyone that wants specific questions answered or wants to add their car to the registry, please message me privately. Ron
