Hi guys.
My brandnew front wheel brake cylinders from Centric (Rockauto) are of poor quality. The vent plugs at both lower front BC are leaking even if i tighten them very strong. Does anyone know where to order USA made wheel brake cylinder? Does Bernbaum have a better quality?
Or is all that is available made in China?

Todd, do you use DOT 5?

Perhaps you could reuse the old bleeders

Hi sven. No i'm using DOT 3. Even the old bleeder screw leaks. I already tested that.

So, it's seems like the seat is the problem.
Measure the angle, grind the "wrong end" of a suitable drill to that angle. Now with grinding paste and an electric drill you can hone the cylinder bleeder seats to a perfect fit to the bleeders

Rock Auto is, of course, ONLY Chineseum....
Andy Bernbaum is also ONLY Chineseum....

I had them reproduced in California before Rock Auto even existed --
And still utilize them today.... The 1956/'57 - Early '59 & the Late '59 -
1961/'62.....

Yes Sven. But for that I have to disassamble them again. And if I've already removed them, then I don't mess around with them, but install a new set. Maybe those are a bit better:

At least they're not from Centric. Maybe from another Chinese manufacturer

Todd, I have Good experience with Raybestos cylinders. Of course made in a yellow place, but still ok. Easy way out is LocTite hydraulic seal if it's the threads that seeps through....

Hmmm...Loctite is not a safe solution to seal wheel brake cylinders. It has to be sealed by the cone, not the thread. If you know a source where you can order Raybestos wheel brake cylinders for 1960 Plymouth / Dodge, that would be great - I can't find a source ...

Maybe I'll take them to a brake specialist who will overhaul them all.

The interchange manual informs that the wc are the same 59-61 (3-platform)
I found this on RockAuto - check if the Centric # corresponds to the ones you bought https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/dodge,1961,dart,5.2l+318cid+v8,1...

Oh yes great sven. Thanks a lot for this. Yes Centric part numbers are the same as for 1960 Dodge Dart. So the Raybestos should also fit. Just wonder why they not listed for the 1960 Dart....

For what it's worth, some of the import wheel cylinders use a metric thread on the bleeder screws, so be careful about switching them from an original cylinder.

If at any point you just simply want the U.S.A. made wheel cylinders,
It is Always best to simply call me --- Craig --- 516 - 485 - 1935.....

Thanks a lot Craig. At some point I surely will get back to you. But not in this matter yet...

Try using the old bleeders.

A few years ago I was working on a Dodge truck and the bleeders were stuck on the rear drums. After heating around the bleeder screw, then hitting the bleeder square with a hammer I was able to remove them. I then went to NAPA and bought some stainless steal bleeders so they'd never stick again.

Perhaps you can take your new wheel cylinders in and get a proper bleeder screw at a NAPA near you.

Hey Todd,

Craig from Mobile Parts is right. He has the right parts and they're quality! Craig supplied the master cylinder, brake shoes, all six wheel cylinders and drums for my 1960 DeSoto Adventurer. It all went it as smooth as silk, nothing leaked and they have performed excellently. Save yourself the hassle of shopping around. Call Craig and enjoy your car, knowing you bought quality parts for it.

516-485-1935 - its the only number you'll need for parts.

I sent my wheel cylinders and master cylinder off and had stainless steel sleeves installed in them. It wasn't too expensive and they fit perfect and will never pit. It was fast and easier than I thought.
