Have a few other things coming in that will constrain space so time to let these two cars go. One could be used as a parts car to make one really good car. Whether you want a true stock D-500 club sedan or create clone D-500 from the hardtop. Starting with the green club sedan, this is a very solid true D-500 car. I purchased this car in Alabama, it has very solid quarters and rockers aside from one spot on the passenger quarter. The car will need front floor pans as well but is overall a very solid example as far as forward look cars go. The original 325 hemi is complete, have not messed with it further. Car includes various pieces of side trim as well as the D-500 emblem. A set of club sedan seats will be included as well. The hardtop is a solid car as well however it will need work to the rockers and quarters, as well as front floorpans. The hardtop has no engine, transmission, or seats and would be the perfect candidate for a swap from the D-500 if you were so inclined. Otherwise it has the missing odds an ends to make the D-500 a complete car. Both of these cars have clear open titles. $6,500 OBO for the pair. Additional photos available on request. Call or text Randy at 352-272-3005 for further details or email autoidios@gmail.com

The body number say this is not a D500 on the green car...2142 would be a flathead six or a base 325 2bbl Poly...a D500 should start with 2542 or 2742...also the green Sedan is a LA California built car.
Can you post a better photo of the trunk lid?...

John: I thought that you were one of the folks that came up with the exceptions to the 57 D500 rule, either in my 57 Dodge body code thread or the related 57 Dodge D500 body code thread.

The first thread, with lots of input including from LD3_Greg, produced this:

And the second one (also with lots of inputs, including from LD3_Greg and yourself (John S) produced this (but there were exceptions, as you noted):

I have a very early production bodied 57 D500 Custom Royal lancer, LA built...it has a BDY code "2286" (3rd picture down)..so not all D500's carried the 25##

I posted about a 2146 car that was a D501.

That said, the last 2142 car we saw was sporting a "Super D500" engine, pretty much obviously a fraud.

The 2142 car:

Looking at the motor mounts of the green car I see no evidence whatsoever of this car ever being a flat six. It doesn’t appear as though this engine has ever been removed from the car. This is shown in the above photos. I can post a trunk lid shot later showing where the D-500 badge was formerly mounted. This car also has the remains of the factory dual exhaust. Perhaps body codes vary because this is an L.A. built car? What examples do you have of D-500 L.A. built cars that would make you believe this? We have had several ‘57 D-500’s in the past and I have no reason to believe this car is not genuine. Additionally as others have mentioned I thought we have found that 25- - body numbers are not a full tell-tale sign. This was the case with the D-500 Custom Suburban we owned previously.

21## code is either a flat 6 or a 2 barrel 325..22## is the code for 4 barrel super red ram and up

The best thing to do is get that FCA IBM card printout..then when you have that it will improve the value of the vehicle as well

Are LA cars even eligible for an IBM printout by Stellantis? It’s my understanding they only have Detroit built cars on record. Again, I still have no reason to believe this car is not genuine as no one really has a definite understanding of how body codes tie into drivetrains and that exceptions to this rule exist. On top of this it is known that LA built cars are exceptions to a lot of things previously thought of as fact. (My LA built custom suburban included.) From my evaluation just looking at the car I am very confident this engine was born with it. There are no signs of it ever being removed from this car. Additionally the badge location for the trunk is 100% correct and the wear around it is consistent for many years of weathering. Unless you have other defining evidence that I’m not aware of I will retain this is a real car.

I have decided to split the cars up and will be listing them on eBay separately if anyone has any interest before that I am negotiable.
