There was no 61 Desoto Adventurer. It was just a 'Desoto'.

Considering the tailfin literally says "Adventurer" I'm gonna go with that being the model name...

That must've been added later. Never came from the factory like that. They were just 'Desoto'. A sad end to a great car.

darn, already up to $30k?
I hadn't seen that auction site before. Its basically a copy of the Bring a Trailer website, right down to the other auctions on the right side.

Ron is correct, the 1961 Desotos were not given any model names. The Adventurer was last produced in 1960, and that does appear to be a '60 emblem in approximately the original '60 location (the fin shapes are different between the two years).

It has some interesting non-stock backup lights!

It's possible that the car never had back-up lights from the factory since they were optional. Here is the same car years before.

These cars optioned without back-up lights still came with back-up light housings and lenses were blank (?). Also, in an old photo it lacks the horizontal rear panel trim. If original back-up light housings
were beyond repair plus lenses broken and replacements are almost impossible to find, the restorer of this car took things straight and filled housing holes in the panels by sheet metal plates.

I don't like that modification. There are plenty of Chrysler tail light housings that could have been used with white lenses. Of course that would mean that they had to be fabricated.

That said, I saw white Chrysler 1960 lenses on a market here in Sweden - the seller claimed that the young guys liked them, but I still haven't seen a car with those white lenses on.

I actually like the looks of the top picture of the rear end with the backup lights which does have a horizontal trim molding. I have a problem with a backup light being larger than the tail light - looks weird.

No sale. Bid to $41K supposedly, reserve was $42K. Asking price is now at $45K.
